We better be facing a lefty. Dauber should be DHing when we face righties. Frank at 1B of course.

Konerko keeps getting a free pass with Manuel. I was a huge Konerko supporter last year, but he is a major rally killer. I want him to succeed, but he has been given enough chances.

I agree. It's weird how certain players are in the lineup regardless of how poorly they are doing, while others can't seem to do anything right in JM's eyes.

Konerko had a good month of July, but he has cooled off in August. Unless he starts swinging the bat well again, teams are going to pitch around Everett in order set up possible double plays.

Daubach is capable of producing, so it makes sense to give him a shot. He's not effective as a pinch-hitter, so Manuel might as well try to get something out of him.

First everyone complains about the tinkering, now everyone is complaining that we have a set lineup. Stop complaining and let JM go with the lineup that works

FYI, Dominguez is a righty.

He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

If Daubach was in the lineup people would be bitching about that.

Actually, people have been campaigning for Daubach to get more at-bats. He's useless as a pinch-hitter. And, FYI, I don't consider platooning Konerko and Daubach tinkering. The Sox need someone to produce in that spot of the batting order. Right now, Konerko isn't giving them much.

Just to chime in on this, I would have benched Konerko long ago and kept him on the bench for the rest of the season. I just don't think he adds much in the everyday lineup. He's gotten some big pinch-hits, and he had a hot July, but so did everyone on the team. I think Dauby should have earned a full-time roll by now. Anyways, let's just win tonight!

Daubach is fourth on this team in walks despite having only about 140 at bats. White Sox regulars have about 400 at bats. I agree. I would have benched Konerko long ago and played Daubach virtually every day.

Of course, I also wouldn't have given Konerko that obscenely large contract in the ofseason, so what do I know.

I'm not in Konerko's camp on this issue either, I was just merely pointing out that while many are upset that Daubach has not received a fair chance, that others would be pissed that Jerry is "tinkering".

Believe me, I'm beyond tired of Mr. Double Play.

I'd rather see Frank at first, Everett DH and Rowand play center.

Guy walks two guys in a row to start the inning and Maggs swings away at 1st pitch.

How dare Palmerio bunt to break up Cotts perfect game! Isn't that an unwritten rule?

What the F&&&& is Mags thinking? Young kid can't find the plate...don't help him out by swinging at the 1st pitch and grounding into a DP...Geez...

It's been talked about. The best example I know of where someone bunted to ruin a perfect game was in San Diego, when Ben Davis bunted on Curt Schilling. Bob Brenly was pissed afterwards.

There were some who didn't think the bunt was that serious. The score was 2-0 at the time, so the Padres still had a chance of winning. However, most people were unhappy that Schilling's performance was ruined.

Someone should make a tag about swining for the fences, because that's all Sox hitters do anymore.

Not too mention the bunt was God awful and could of been easily fielded for an out but the 2nd screwed up.

I was torn on that particular instance and still am.

With Valentin's homer, the Sox now have five players with twenty or more home runs.

Cotts should work one or two more innings, so he's eligible to win, but no more than that. His control has regressed from last week. Fortunately, the Rangers haven't capitalized.

08-22-2003, 08:16 PM
Not sure how the hell Cotts managed to get out of that one... but it seems to me like the Rangers are playing like we were a week ago. Getting all the scoring opportunites handed to them and just blowing it.

Hell, we'll take it. :D:

3-0 Royals in the 5th.

RKMeibalane
08-22-2003, 08:21 PM
The Sox need this game. With the Royals winning, it's important that the Pale Hose hold on to first place.

RKMeibalane
08-22-2003, 08:23 PM
Another double play? This team really needs to work on executing with men on base. They've been terrible the whole season in that area.

Lip and everyone else can say what they want about us needing to trade for a 5th starter, but at this point, this is 2 quality starts in a row for Mr. Cotts. Either way, holding the Rangers offense 2 starts in a row is impressive.

RKMeibalane
08-22-2003, 08:38 PM
Why do Sox hitters think it's cool to swing at the first or second pitch of their at-bat?

Unregistered
08-22-2003, 08:39 PM
And of course, following that statement, Cotts promptly puts the first two men on base...

balboner
08-22-2003, 08:39 PM
Why in the world did Manuel leave Cotts in for the 6th? He was barely getting by the entire game, and there were 8 straight righties/switch hitters coming up.

This team has confounded us all year long by underachieving and lettin down against seemingly inferior teams. Add in Manuel's uselessness and we are very fortunate to still be in this thing. Nonetheless (as Cotts gets the shaving cream pie) the SOX are here and are not going away. Get even tougher guys. Put away the hated twinkies and those pesky royals. Oh and ***k the evil little bears!!!!!

Lip

Actually I would bet the house who ever wins the central will play New York in the first series. With Mulder and maybe Hudson out, the A's should fade a bit, allowing Boston to take the wildcard. So if New York has the best record they can't play Boston and if Seatle has the best record they play the Wild Card team.
