From today's Tribune....

Alomar is willing to do whatever it takes to get to first base ahead of the ball—including sliding head-first, a risky habit that manager after manager has tried to break, all in vain.

Jerry Manuel isn't one of them.

"No, I don't mess with Hall of Famers," the Sox manager said. "I leave them alone. I let them do their thing.

"I think he knows what he's doing, and if that's what makes him feel good and feel like he can get there a little quicker, and he has been doing it as long as he has been doing it—I have no problem with it at all."

If Manuel doesn't mess with Hall of Famers, I'd sure like to ask him what he's been doing with Frank Thomas.
