Can't we all just have some fun and bring it to the chat!

The "official game thread" has become a WSI tradition, one which I am doing my best to uphold. Besides, if I hadn't done this, one of the mods would have eventually.

"Slowswing" is in the lineup. This should be interesting.

Another error by Konerko. He has been terrible out there recently.

Frickin' Konerko.

Here we go again. Two on, none out. Eric Chavez is now at the plate.

It's okay. We got plenty of time.

I know, but I don't like seeing first-inning rallies. Those tend to indicate that a pitcher isn't hitting his spots. Of course, the error by Konerko to start the game didn't help.

Neither did Carlos Lee losing the ball in the sun/shade.
3-0...ugggh!
Hope the Sox brought their bats tonight. :gulp:

I wonder how long Jerry Manuel will wait before he decides to pull Garland out of the game.

Frank singles with two outs.

Can't blame CLee for not being able to see it. If you've ever sat there at that time of day, you know that the sun is wicked.

Our 8 million dollar a year 1st baseman however, didn't have the sun to deal with...

Agreed. And if Konerko never makes that error, it's debatable whether Oakland scores once, let alone three times. If Manuel honestly believes that Konerko is better than Thomas defensively, he's out of his mind. Paulie has been awful in the field of late.

Another hit. Garland looks bad based on what I can piece together from the Gamecast.

Dammit.

MAn, no breaks so far for the Sox.

Nice to see the Sox haven't suffered a letdown after moving into first.

At this rate Jerry's gonna pull Garland in an inning or so and then waste our bullpen so they can't pitch tomorrow.

That was a good job by Jon there to get out of that inning only down 4-0.

The offense needs to take care of business, starting this inning.

On a positive note, the twins are losing 4-0 in the bottom of the 3rd.

Not to lower the bar or anything, but if the sox lose today and win tomorrow, I'd be pretty pleased with the results of this series. Regardless of what KC and Minnesota do.

It'll be interesting to see how Wright throws out of the pen

This team does not respond well to success. Every time they look to be on the verge of taking complete control of their division, they do something like this.

RKMeibalane

It looks like the Sox will be back in second place when the sun comes up tomorrow.

Bases loaded and they can't do ****.

WhiteSox = Life
08-09-2003, 08:58 PM
Not that it really needs to be pointed out, but the Sox again managed to get the bases loaded on three hits without getting a run home. Then, Frank can't hit at least a sac fly, followed by Maggs chopping a weakly hit ball to the SS on a good pitch to hit. So, once again, three hits, bases loaded, inning ends without a run scored from that situation.

Were you expecting the Sox to sweep Oakland and Tampa to sweep Kansas City?

Every game counts down the stretch....which is why the Sox can't afford to have a garbage 5th starter or play like they are doing tonight.

One game can make all the difference.

The Sox must stop turning in performances like this, or else they might as well forget about the postseason. I can handle the occasional loss, but flat, lifeless baseball is not something that I'm fond of.

RKMeibalane
08-09-2003, 09:45 PM
This game proves that the Sox are still relying too much on the homerun. No one has hit one, and the Sox have two runs as a result.

Koch just got whiplash again... 7-2 A's.

Lip Man 1

It's too bad because Lilly was the weak link in the A's rotation. I thought the Sox could get to him tonight.

Tomorrow they have their "can't miss kid" going who actually looks like he's worth a damn and the Sox have never seen him before (which seems to ALWAYS mean a llllloooonnnngggg day for Sox hitters)

Oh well first place was nice while it lasted.

Here's where the schedule differences begin to really show themselves.

Well the Sox sure looked like trash tonight didn't they?

They have a trend going and it's not good. Their last four games the run totals in order have been....

5 (Tuesday) 4 (Wednesday) 3 (Friday) 2 (Saturday)

Do they get 1 tomorrow?

By the way in addition to K.C. winning, Detroit blew a four / zip lead and now trail Minnesota 8-4 in the 10th.

Just a great night all around eh?

The bad plays in the first inning killed Jonny boy but he didn't look any better in the 2nd or 3rd either.

well, on the plus side, i'm glad to see they got a great amt of hits this game, they just didn't convert them.
and oakland got alot more

also for some idiotic reason manuel didnt put our "A-Team" out there today. no alomar who's been in fire lately, no everett who's seen the oakland pitchers alot more the past few years than we have.
and no way burke should've started a big game like this.

hey, and clement is getting rocked right now in LA, alou screwed up a double and it became an in the park HR.

so, at least one of our favorite teams is doing well tonight.
