Hope this doesn't mean Olivo is more injured than thought...

Matt Ginter aka "Mr. Potential," was sent back today today.

He was replaced by a catcher from Charlotte, Jamie Burke.

I can't figure this one out unless Miguel Olivo is really hurt and the Sox aren't saying anything about it.

Now considering they cut White and sent down Mr. Grand Slam Ginter, they are REALLY shorthanded in the pen especially from the right side.

Of course the other possibility is that Burke is just up for a day or two while they complete a waiver deal (please, please, please!)

He's going to have the number of the great Josh Paul!

Sorry for the duel post on this, I must have been posting mine while you were writing your long-winded version, ;)

I think Burke will be alot better than Josh Paul was.

Stand by... waiver wire might be quiverin.' Wouldn't Olivo go on the DL if he's the real reason for these moves?

I wonder why Mike Rivera wasn't called up. Rivera has been hitting better in AAA (albeit in 100 less ABs) and he has a better minor league track record.

Burke has been hitting somewhat well in AAA (.806 OPS). I don't know what his defense is like, but he can't hit much worse than Olivo is hitting this year.

Well I think we're finally going to find out what Wright can do out of the pen.

What's the option situation on Ginter?

that must be it. we'll add a fifth starter with cotts or through a trade and wright will work out of the pen. burke must've been called up for olivo just until the fifth starters turn comes up again.

Why not put Olivo on the DL and not have to send down Ginter? That says to me they have some signing or deal in the works. I really hope Olivo is ok. This worries me.

If they put Olivo on the DL, he'd have to miss at least 15 days. His injury is obviously nothing serious, just needs a few days off.

I think you're all overlooking the most obvious answer which is Miguel needs a couple days off to rest and Sandy can't be expected to carry the catching burden for that long.

We have no catching in this organization.

Jerry said he really liked Burke in spring training and wanted to see what he could do. He will definitely get a start either today or tomorrow because Sandy will be a wreck if he continues this work load. However, I do agree that sending down Ginter is a strong indication of another acquisition. I heard that Paniagua was a done deal once he was finished with the Pan Am games.
