HOUSTON -- Reliever Rick White signed with the NL Central-leading Houston Astros on Wednesday night, less than a week after being let go by the White Sox.

White was 1-2 with one save and a 6.61 ERA in 34 games for the White Sox. The righty was designated for assignment last Friday night.

"This was a move to pick up an experienced arm in the middle of a pennant race. He has experience pitching in a pennant race and in post season," Astros general manager Gerry Hunsicker said.

"This will give us more weapons out of the bullpen. If our starters can go five innings, then we will have several weapons to use to get us to Billy Wagner," he said. "This was a no-lose situation. We didn't have to give up any talent."

Houston optioned pitcher Kirk Saarloos to Triple-A New Orleans and placed pitcher Rodrigo Rosario on the 60-day disabled list.

I hope Rich White REDISCOVERS HIMSELF......and puts it to the Cubs dearly ...... Could be another case of someone doing Better back in the weak sister National League.
