MAGGLIO ORDONEZ NAMED AMERICAN LEAGUE
PEPSI PLAYER OF THE MONTH
CHICAGO - Right fielder Magglio Ordonez has been named the American League Pepsi Player of the Month for July after hitting .429 (45-101) with 13 doubles, seven home runs and 24 RBI. It is the first career monthly award for Ordonez.
Ordonez led AL in average, hits, total bases (81), doubles, slugging percentage (.771) and extra-base hits (21), tied teammates Paul Konerko and Carlos Lee for the lead with 24 RBI, tied for the lead with 22 runs scored and ranked second with a .474 on-base percentage. His .429 average was the fifth-highest monthly figure in White Sox history, while his 45 hits tied Harold Baines (twice) for the second-highest monthly total since 1974.
Ordonez has been named AL Player of the Week five times during his career, including three times in 2002 (most recently on September 10-16, 2002). Esteban Loaiza was named AL Pepsi Pitcher of the Month for April, while Paul Konerko (June 2002) was the last Sox position player to win the monthly award.
