By season's end there won't be a difference. Two last place teams with a bunch of random veterans and no promise.

As much as I hate the Flubs, they aren't bad enough to finish last.

Now that Cincinnati allowed the Yankees and Red Sox to take them to the cleaners (pathetic), they will likely become the doormat of the NL Central.

Was he like supposed to go to the Cubs? Did they trade for him and he rejected it? What's the 411?

Supposedly, the Cubs and Rangers were going to work on a deal for Palmeiro. Before they had even exchanged names of possible players involved, the Texas GM went to Palmeiro and asked if he would be willing to lift his no-trade clause for a deal to send him to the Cubs. He said no.

This isn't surprising. Palmeiro originally came up with the Cubs, but they traded him to Texas because they did not believe that he would hit for enough power to play first base. They briefly tried playing him in the outfield, but that experiment didn't work.

Funny how the Cubs didn't think much of his ability to hit home runs, yet he moved past the five hundred mark this season. Even funnier is the fact that they opted to give a young player named Mark Grace a chance to play first full time, and he has never hit for power.

Palmeiro is no dummy. He wants no part of the Cubs. He is revered here in Texas despite their constant losing.

Palmeiro won't come back because he's too old to hit on anybody on the team's wife. Then again, he does take Viagra so who knows? Maybe he just misses Sandberg's wife and figures since she's not around anymore, why bother?
