Can Marte take over as a LH closer? Will they eat Koch's contract and let him go? Will Gordon resign? Inquiring minds want to know.

I knoe we can only speculate, but what do you think (not hope) will happen next year.

I like Marte as a specialist to get lefties out in late innings rather than as my closer. Flash has been very good also. I hope we eat Koch's deal and get rid of him or we are able to fix him over the offseason. Either way...

But as far as Marte closing full time, I don't see it. He is our best option to get lefties out in clutch situations.

In a perfect world, Billy Koch would get the Royce Clayton treatment and get dumped overboard in August. Marte should definitely be kept because he can close or set up. Gordon is having a great past few weeks but is getting up there in years...any deal he gets better be short term.

Billy Kroch will probably still be around next year & will have every chance in the world to win back the closing job. After he fails miserably....AGAIN...Marte, along with the good ol' bullpen by committee will all take turns closing. Joy!

Marte is too versatile to limit to just closing games. Royce Ring would be a great option in a couple years.....oh wait he was traded. Um....I guess Gordon then or maybe Koch gets fixed. Marte is nasty against EVERYONE. Wunsch is more of a situational guy than Damaso.

i think its very valuable to have a lefty out of the pen as good as marte but i think that without koch regaining his prior form or signing another player, marte would have to be the closer. wunsch is already very good at retiring lefties so you have to go with your best pitcher. marte has had pretty good success against right handed hitters so i don't think the fact that he's lefthanded would be any kind of a problem.

OK, maybe not. However, Marte could be a very effective closer if he or JM wanted him to be. It would be best to leave Damaso where he is now. Gordon can be the closer the rest of the season, we'll worry about next year later........hopefully in late October.

Call me crazy, but I think there's a decent chance Billy gets his fastball back in the offseason.

Of course, that is based off my theory (and one I've heard from others) that he's got a dead arm thing going on from being over-worked last year.

Barring that, I'd take Marte or Gordon any day.

Well I bet that he probably could. But he needs to rest his arm like Gordon did last offseason. Gordon is our closer, he's proved that already. Marte has about 6 blown saves, stick with Tom.
