Well, I figured I would start this thread, just so everyone could see who has become an All-Star.

NL Starters
Albert Pujols
Barry Bonds
Gary Sheffield
Javy Lopez
Todd Helton
Marcus Giles
Scott Rolen
Edgar Renteria

Jjav829

No Sham-ME! Cards fan (and Corky haters) stuffed the box and got Pujols in!

Your NL starters:

C- Javy Lopez
1B- Todd Helton
2B- Marcus Giles
SS- Edgar Renteria
3B- Scott Rolen
OF- Barry Bonds
OF- Gary Sheffield
OF- Albert Pujols - Leading vote getter in the NL. What a comeback considering he wasn't even in the top 3 at one point.

A lot of Braves and Cards there.

Ah, ya might as well delete this...

:)

Edit: After all, it's not *Official*... :D:
Edit 2: Or merge. Either way, it's good.

Pujols is also the second youngest All-Star starter in history. Griffey, Jr. was the youngest.

Nice! Sham-me better not get picked as a reserve. He does not deserve to be there.

Hmm... I wonder why Ichiro was the leading vote-getter again and Matsui got in, too?

Wow, could there actually be justice in the baseball world? I got sick to my stomach reading about those f*#ing idiot Japanese voters heaped on the votes on the incredibly undeserving Sham-ME*, ESPECIALLY this year just a few weeks after the cork incident.

To see Pujols make it over Sham-ME* is nothing if not "delicious."

I'll kill all of you! I am going to get my good friend Bruce Banner...you'll see.

One of the worst? But, "This Time It Counts!"

Every time I see that commercial and hear that voiceover, I can't help but laugh!

It's a cool commercial though...Happy about Sammy not making it. REAL interested about the pitching matchup. Come on Esteban.

Alex Rodriguez seems like a great person.

I mean, he may be really greedy, but who here wouldn't have taken that amount of money over a Seattle team that had yet to win, anyway?

True, he may be greedy (wise, too), but the guy is very well-spoken, carries himself very well, has a quiet dignity and respects the game.

IMO, Alex Rodriguez is not only one of the best baseball players, he's also one of the best people in baseball.

Jesus Prior and Kerry "Glass" Wood both get nods.

NL Pitchers:

Russ Ortiz
John Smoltz
Mark Prior
Kerry Wood(picked for Chacon)
Shawn Chacon-injured though so he wont pitch
Billy Wagner
Kevin Brown
Eric Gagne
Armando Benitez
Randy Wolf
Mike Williams (what the hell?!)
Jason Schmidt
Woody Williams

WhiteSox = Life
07-06-2003, 06:25 PM
Armando Benitez gets in, too!

:o:

Edit: Upon second thought, his presence in the game will definitely make it more interesting!

Dontrelle Willis seems to be the first All-Star snub.

I can't believe Benitez made it. I guess the Mets are that bad that he may be the best choice for their lone selection, though I personally would have chosen Jae Seo over him. They need to scrap the one rep per team thing, especially since the game counts for home field advantage.

I agree with you on Huff. Carter does not have All Star numbers.

Frank Thomas better make it, that's all I gotta say.

Armando Benitez? Yeesh, that tells you how bad the Mets are this year. Imagine him blowing the game and letting the Yanks have home field advantage in the World Series; he might as well write himself out of baseball in NY entirely after that.

Congrats to Esteban L. for a well-deserved AS selection. Hope he can start at the Cell.

Everett?? Glad he's with us now, but still.

Maybe Sweeney not playing will allow Thomas to play.

Like SoxDemon said as well as ChiSox7, Sweeney stepping down may give Hurt a chance, but otherwise, I don't think Frank Thomas would get in. I just don't see him getting the fans' votes as the 30th man.

He's just not the media darling Sham-Me* is.

but picking Wood over Dontrelle is ridiculous. Wood is a .500 pitcher. Dusty, you suck.

The AL pitching staff doesn't look so hot to me,
other than Esteban, Mulder and Zito and the relief pitchers
don't do anything for me at all. Lance Carter????

Konerkoholic

Carter was the worst selection in All-Star history.
Guardado sucks, Twins bias aside.
Zito? Not this year, Mike.

I wonder if SamME gave Dusty permission to not pick him. Surely Dusty knows that the King of Cork can get managers fired on the North Side. Dusty will probably say he gave Dr Rum the night off to save him from more of that unfair abuse from those ignorant South Siders. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

After hearing Dusty's comments about the treatment he expected Sham-ME to get at The Cell, I'm willing to bet that as a result of his treatment there last weekend Sham-ME begged Dusty not to pick him.

According to the official AP story on the picks, Everett was already named to replace Sweeney who is on the DL and won't play.

The updated AP report on Chicagosports.com (the trib) says that they haven't named a replacement for Sweeney yet. If they name Giambi, then Frank has a great chance with the vote. If they name Frank, thats even better.

Dontrelle Willis needs to be on the team. This would be to the AS game what Mark Fydrich(sp?) was in 1976 and Doc Gooden was in 1984. Stupid Dusty! Any chance there is another pitcher who is hurt for the NL?

LauraJ14
07-06-2003, 09:17 PM
Kevin Brown is having his next start pushed back due to a
abdominal strain so maybe Dontrelle Willis will get there.

OK, I've put in 2+ hours of voting while listening to the TV. Gotta take a rest before carpal tunnel sets in...

Well, I'm certainly glad to see Estaban (very deserving) and Everett voted in. It's interesting that Everett got in, given that he's even more of a PR nightmare than Frank. Strange how things work...

Most of all, though, I'm glad to see Sam-me got snubbed and the VERY deserving Pujols voted in. I wonder if MLB "stuffed" the ballot box to take Sosa out, given the cork incident and the loud booing that he'd receive at The Cell. I have a hard time believing that Pujols came back THAT quickly in the voting. Sounds like ballot box stuffing to me.

But Hideki Matsui? I mean, this guy has been playing well for a couple weeks, but THAT'S IT. Looks like the Japanese fans voted along the lines of eithnicity instead of merit. Another reason why fans shouldn't be allowed to vote...

Dontrelle Willis got screwed. I'd be pissed if I were him.
