Holy Gaschnickitys, Batman! Can it be? It's the same damn lineup as Wednesday (except for the catcher platoon). NO WAY!

Two baserunning mistakes in two innings for Alomar?

He's clueless on base like Jimenez! Get rid of him!

Actually, the ump blew the call on the first one, he was safe. But at least his mistakes are ones of aggression.

Man, Crede's swing looks horrible. And he has no approach at the plate. Need to geth im turned around.

I'm not able to watch the game on TV today. For those who are, I was wondering how fast Colon's fastball is today. My curiosity stems from the fact that it's been down in the low 90's over the past couple games.

That's relieving to know. That means most of his fastballs are probably in the 91-93 range.

Thanks!

Never mind - the gametracker I used mistakenly said that Marte gave up the homer and 2 singles - they have since corrected it.

Daubach solo shot! 3-1 Sox... a little insurance... :bandance:

ilsox7
07-04-2003, 07:44 PM
The thing with Olivo is his defense is great. With the bat, he is gonan struggle partly b/c he gets 2 consecutive days off b/c Alomar catches both mb and wright...so it will be tough for him to get in any sort of groove.

RKMeibalane

Daubach is on fire. Manuel should give him the majority of the playing time at DH for the time being.

It wouldn't be so bad if he had one positive thing going for him. Like he was getting rocked but throwing strikes, or walking guys but no one could hit him. This guy throws 88mph fastballs and most of the time he can't even get them near the plate.

Not quite closer material I would say.

Agreed.

With a 99 mph fastball, he may be an acceptable closer.
I mean Foulke threw 90, for chrissake. Plus he was a real pitcher.

I too haven't gone nuts on Koch yet. But today I have lost any patience with this joke of a major league baseball player, Billy Koch. How should his teammates treat him in the locker-room? They play their asses off the entire frigin' game and basically earn a win all just to have this piece of sh*t blow the game to a punch and judy hitter!!!!!! If I were on the Sox I would get in his face and challenge him to a fight on the spot. KW PLEASE GET ON THE PHONE and get us a closer ASAP!!!

ilsox7
07-04-2003, 08:07 PM
Time to see how this team reacts with a little adversity. Makes these next 2 games MUST wins with Steve and MB throwin. Time for Billy to be relegated to mop up work. And time for KW to ger another reliver in here. Bad thing is, the price of that reliever just went up incrementally.

Fisk72
07-04-2003, 08:07 PM
Just simply a bad way to lose to a bad team. And what the hell is up with their mascot? Geez! You think we could somehow reverse the trade now?

UnderpantsGnome
07-04-2003, 08:08 PM
We will not do crap in the playoffs with Koch as our closer. Period. If KW has decided to go for it this year, we need to shore up a few other positions. One in particular.

WhiteSox = Life

First time in last 7 series, Sox didn't win game one. That shouldn't have been.

I don't care who the blown save and loss against, even if it's the Devil Rays. They're still a Major League team. Koch apparently thought he was playing against Little Leaguers, throwing up 87 MPH fastballs nowhere near the plate, or down the middle.

He was pitching better, but was still putting runners on. You keep putting them on, you're going to blow some games. And, Krotch blew this one in grand fashion, too.

Why can't the White Sox have a guy who can get out of an inning without letting anybody get on?

This is just frustrating, plain and simple...

 Frustrating.

I wonder how Wunsch would do in the closer role. He's devestating against lefties, and he had pitched extremely well this season until he hurt his back.

While I would generally agree with that statement, top notch closers (the top 4 or 5 in the game) ARE worth the money. Most teams who go deep in the playoffs have a top closer. In our case, I am thinking it's worth it.

We did. His name was Keith Foulke. Every year since 1999 he has allowed less than a baserunner per inning.

But he didn't throw 100 mph or have facial hair, so he was unpopular with many fans.

Smoltz, Gagne, Foulke, Rivera, and maybe Wagner are the only closers worth a damn. And we're not going to get any of those guys.

Anybody else available (Hello, Armando Benitez) would not be a significant upgrade over Marte.

The same Troy Percival who is incapable of pitching more than an inning and who had to adjust his delivery in the middle of this season because of a degenerative hip condition?

No thanks, I'll pass. I'll stick with Marte, whose numbers are comperable.

JaBBz
07-04-2003, 08:32 PM
Troy Percival would upgrade this team more significantly than anything else we could legitimately be able to do. He has ice in his veins and isn't a moody little whore like Koch.

Billy Koch is consistently inconsistent, and Chicago will NEVER see a World Champion on the South Side as long as he's closing.

Beane would've dumped him even if he didn't get Foulke in return. Look no further than the A's in the playoffs a year ago. The guy was an enigmatic choke job.

I haven't HATED many Sox players, but I HATE Billy Koch.

Forget World Series talk unless we bring in a nails closer. Come on Kenny! Go after Percival!

HawkDJ
07-04-2003, 08:34 PM
You gotta go with Marte. He is better than alot of options out there. The problem is if they do that then they don't have Wunsch to fill Marte's old spot.

Shocking way to start a road trip don't you think?

Do you realize if the Royals win tonight the Sox will be 4 1/2 out?

That's a pretty sizable lead over a team that had all the momentum and went 9-3 over the last 12 games! I don't know who the Royals have been playing but about a month ago they were a game under .500 so they have started to get hot again even without Sweeney.

This is the 9TH TIME the Sox lost a game after leading going into the 7th inning or later. That's totally unacceptable and the Sox may regret deeply this figure about the middle of September.

This is the 3rd time this season the Sox lost the game when having a lead in the 9th inning. (Koch was on the mound twice when it happened)

All of the rhetoric directed towards Koch is justified HOWEVERwhen the Sox can only get two runs and what, four hits off VICTOR ZAMBRANO you've got a real problem!

Zambrano was the league leader in walks and had hit EIGHT GUYS already, so what were the Sox doing all game? Right...swinging early instead of getting deep into counts and talking more walks.

Just something to consider.

Lip

Oh, Koch is a nails closer all right. Although by the time he's blown the game, you don't have any nails left...
