Please make this a sticky!
Vote for Frank 7/6 - 7/9!

We can still make a difference!

LOOP-HOLE TO EXPLOIT
Save the web page to your pc & then run it from the saved page in your browser.
file:///C:/mlb_final_vote_form.html

After you vote, just hit back. All of your input is stored on that page so all you have to do is enter the new key.

For those who can't save to a pc, use this link:
http://outfield.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2003/mlb_final_vote_thankyou.html?FORM_CODE=mlb_allstar 2003_ballot&partnerId=mlb&email=strongbuya%40yahoo.com&zip=60604&dob_mm=1&dob_dd=1&dob_yyyy=1980&nlopt=yes&al=123245&nl=121693&x=672003124527370&y=48077&z=197c7c949af9b46db0fda63c3811db0e&ui=48077

Hit vote again. Fill out the form, then vote.

Use the back button or key on your browser & your input will be saved.
You just need to enter the new key.

FASTER SHORTCUT!

If you are able to save the page to
file:///C:/mlb_final_vote_form.html

pull it into an html editor. Look for the object tag. There are several type="hidden" occurences. Change these to "text". This will show the key
in such a way you can just copy & paste it before voting.

Be sure to save it & then open that file in your browser.

When you receive the page saying you voted, USE YOUR BACK KEY on your BROWSER to vote again. DON'T press the VOTE AGAIN button.

This will save all of your inputs from the last time.

It varies depending on your browser & alterations you make to the page.
You may have to increase the number of TABS.

My form has been condensed to speed up processing.

Once you kick it off .. leave the pc alone.

Everett?? Glad he's with us now, but still.

Maybe Sweeney not playing will allow Thomas to play.

Frank has had a better season than Everett and is playing better right now. Everett started out on fire and it has been a steady decline since then.

Meh, remember last year. We did that for Maggs and he still fell like a million votes short. A White Sox player can't win. If a Yankee or Red Sox is there, I guarantee he wins it. If not, it will be a fan favorite.

Just a warning. I know everyone wants Frank in and so do I. But don't get your hopes up. The Yankees fans will make this overwhelming for Giambi. It won't even be close by the time this night is over. :(:

We're gonna have to hope he gets picked for an injured player.

Never underestimate the east coast bias... Sadly, Varitek may be a problem, too...

Needless to say, things are looking too good.

It'd be nice to see Frank get in, though. He's done great this season.

It'd be a crying shame if he didn't get in, but we'll see. And we might just help ourselves see the man we want...

Vote Frank Thomas for 32nd man!

There's the chance he goes for Sweeney. How does that work? Does the injured person say who he would like to take his place, or does the manager take care of it?

The manager takes care of it. Let's hope Scossia has enough sense to do the right thing here. Frank does have a few things going for him:

1. The game is in his home park.
2. Frank has not faced the Angels this season, but he hit well against them last season.
3. Frank has been playing the field more, so he could go as Sweeny's replacement.

As long as we are stuffing the box. who is getting the NL vote? I like Luis Castillo, only because, if there is a Marlins sell off (despite there commitment to Lowell), it will increase the value of what the Flubs would have to give up.

Nah, you're not being pessimistic PHG, just realistic. As powerful as the Sox Army is, Yankee Nation is 10 times as powerful. Our only hope is that Sweeney can't make it and Frank is picked as the replacement.

On another board, Sox & Cubs fans are voting for Thomas & Patterson. I got no problem with this. If Sosa went, I would've, but Patterson's having a good year too, and is deserving. He's got a better shot than Frank, who has to go up against Giambi & Varitek. KEEP VOTING FOR FRANK!!!

I have been voting for Frank for a half hour so far. There is no way he should be left of this team. It is a slap in the face to the White Sox and all Sox fans. If this was NY or SF do you think that they would leave off the biggest star on their teams!

By my calculations I have voted about 750 times. I miscalculated before. I was doing about 8 a minute for 100 Minutes. So I subtracted 50.

I counted my first 100, then that was wering on me. I since have found out my average votes per minute (9), and multiplied this by the number of consecutive minutes I've voted. I know I am not overestimating because I actually averaged 9 votes in 55 seconds. I have voted over 500 times now. Call me a loser, but I want to see Frank in the game where he belongs.

It might be a good idea to hook up with some Giants fans & work out a deal with them between Frank & Santiago. I don't see anyway we can work together with Cubs fans. The other 3 NL guys...Castillo-FLA, Cabrera-MON & Jenkins-MIL don't exactly have huge fan followings.

Well, I finally decided to call it quits about 20 minutes ago...

I knew I should probably stop when the Validation Key was telling me United States government conspiracies.

Anyway, let's add a little fun to this thread.

For those who voted, over and over and over and over again, some fun questions to answer... Well, I hope they're fun...

1. Did you use the keypad or the line of numbers for the validation key?
2. How many times did you forget to vote Frank?
3. How many times did you inadvertently click on the link above the key?
4. About how many times did you vote, if you have any semblance of the number whatsoever?
5. Whom did you vote for besides Frank?
6. How much time did you spend voting?
7. What was the lowest validation number you were given?
8. What was the highest?
9. How many windows did you have open to vote?
10. Finally, will Frank Thomas win?

As a model and for fun, my answers:

1. I used the keypad. Much, much easier and way more accessible.
2. I entered the key and clicked vote, but forgot the most vital part, i.e. to vote for anybody twice! Of course, it was always Frank in the AL.
3. That happened to me three times.
4. I have not a modicum of an idea how many times I voted. I would imagine in excess of 1,000.
5. I voted for Luis Castillo a lot, but stopped after about 300-500 votes, for efficiency's sake, of course.
6. Probably around 2-4 hours. Tough to tell with the breaks in-between.
7. The lowest number I got was 54.
8. I think it was 90000-something.
9. Two. Vote, next window and vote. Go to the previous one and click vote again for optimal performance!
10. If all of us White Sox fans keep doing all we can, then by God, Frank can win. We have to give our all!

Keep marching, Army! Go, Frank! Go, White Sox!

Interest in the all-star game is definitely up this year. From the WSJ:

Major League Baseball's Web site registered 4.6 million ballots for the All-Star Game, a record number and an increase of more than 50% over last year's total.

About 1.5 million unique voters cast more than 60 million total votes in the online balloting, which ended Wednesday at midnight. Both numbers were up about 50% from last year, according to MLB.com

They might throw those out because they don't have a ver key. Remember it's just a database app. It's pretty easy for these to be left out of a key based query for results.

Still voting for Frank, especially after reading all kinds of nonsense in the AP and other national media about Sosa being the one who got jobbed. UMMM..reality check you East Coast media wonks, the All-Star game is on the SOUTH SIDE of Chicago.

Excellent link. Gets you right there.

Speed up your inputs by using the "tab" button. From the "vote again" page, tab, tab, enter gets you to the vote page. Click Frank, fill in the number then tab, enter to vote.

So, tab, enter, tab, tab, enter and you are back to the vote page very quickly. What's your left hand doing for Frank Thomas? :D:

If you are able to save the webpage to
file:///C:/mlb_final_vote_form.html

All you have to do is pull it into an html editor & look for the object tag. Near it you will find several type="hidden".
Change these to "text".

Save it & then open that file in your browser.

Now you will be able to copy the key & paste it in the field.

I'll probably be able to get in 200 a day until the poll closes (wish I could do more, but I'm pretty busy this week).

BTW, which NL player are people voting for. Although I think that Patterson is very deserving, I can't bring myself to vote for a Cub. I voted for the players on the small market teams (Cabrera, Castillo, and Jenkins... with an emphasis on Jenkins because he's a Brewer and, therefore, a Cub enemy).

It depends. I'm in the process of finishing a VB script in Excel that will automate my voting. Essentially generating a vote every 3 seconds.

I'm sure some of the other voters for other teams will figure out the same thing so essentially the winner will be the sum of all parts.

I will publish the VB script in this thread for those who are interested.

The validation number is made type text so that it can be copied & paste to the input field.

There's a delay to get a new validation number loaded before doing the copy & paste.

There's probably a lot more people voting online now at this hour in the U.S. than at say, 10-12 PM at night. I'm having problems accessing the pages without errors, so I'm going to vote later a whole lot. If anyone else is receiving error messages, I suggest you do likewise.

Here's the right version:
You can only condense the form for speed so much.

Here's the steps:
1) Edit this page & save it to your pc
http://outfield.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2003/mlb_final_vote_form.html

to be done in html editor
2) You must change the y field from hidden to text for this macro to work.
The y field is part of the verification key object & it's near the end of the code.

3) If you decide not to condense the page than you will need to increase the loop count for tabs to the y field
and possibly add a few more for the verification field.

4) The delays should work, but if you see problems then increase them.

Here's the VB macro code for Excel:
Sub NetscapeDDE()
AppActivate "MLB.com - 2003 etopps All-Star Final Vote - Netscape"

For i = 0 To 10 ' outer loop to 1 million

For h = 0 To 15
SendKeys "{TAB}", True
Next h

SendKeys "%E", True
SendKeys "A", True
SendKeys "%E", True
SendKeys "C", True

nh = Hour(Now())
nm = Minute(Now())
ns = Second(Now()) + 1
wt = TimeSerial(nh, nm, ns)
Application.Wait wt

SendKeys "{TAB}", True
SendKeys "{TAB}", True

SendKeys "%E", True
SendKeys "A", True
SendKeys "%E", True
SendKeys "P", True

nh = Hour(Now())
nm = Minute(Now())
ns = Second(Now()) + 1
wt = TimeSerial(nh, nm, ns)
Application.Wait wt

SendKeys "{TAB}", True
SendKeys "~", True

nh = Hour(Now())
nm = Minute(Now())
ns = Second(Now()) + 2
wt = TimeSerial(nh, nm, ns)
Application.Wait wt

SendKeys "%{LEFT}", True

nh = Hour(Now())
nm = Minute(Now())
ns = Second(Now()) + 1
wt = TimeSerial(nh, nm, ns)
Application.Wait wt

Next i

' 18 tabs, select all, copy, 4 more tabs, paste, tab, enter, wait, alt-back, wait, & repeat

End Sub

After following Juggers instructions for saving the page, open up Netscape. Go file, open page and browse for the ballot which you saved on your hard drive. Open this page out, fill in your info and then run the VBA script. The VBA only activates the window, why you need to leave your computer alone while running it, it doesn't open up netscape. That was one of the probems I saw some post. You may need to play around a bit to get the tabs and such to work.

Has anyone reached out politely to the BoSox boards and asked them to back off? Yeah, I know it's a long shot, but if a few guys actually take the arguments to heart (Frank's hometown, maybe last year playing in Chicago, sentimentality, honor among brothers, etc.) then it could do more to swing the vote than any efforts we are making.

There are very valid reasons for voting for Frank that go beyond Sox fandom. We need to make the enemy see the light...

How about get Yankee fans onboard, now that Giambi is apparently in 4th place and may be out of contention. It'd just be an extension of the Colon trade in the Yankee-ChiSox relationship ensuring the demise of the BoSox. Maybe wait on trying this till Wednesday, Yankee nation probably feels it can still get Giambi in.
