Mike Sweeney experienced a shooting pain in his back when he got out of bed on Thursday morning. He's set to consult another specialist.
''It's definitely a serious setback,'' trainer Nick Swartz said. ''The injury in general, with the nerve irritation, that's been a serious injury all the way along. Your hopes are you can get the nerve area to calm down. But the disc bumps into the nerve root and there's the irritation again.'' It appears unlikely that Sweeney will be back before the All-Star break.

While I feel bad for Sweeney, his injury could help the Sox overtake those pesky Royals.
