Hi guys, I run the Mets Online Fan Forum (www.themofo.net) and just wanted to ask you what you guys think the guys the Mets acquired?

Not knowing the Sox System, I would like to see what Sox fans think of the prospects.

Short of it: Salvo is nothing; Almonte had a great 2002 but has been very bad this year, he could still make a major league roster sometime in his career. Ring is the real prize, The Sox 2002 first round pick, great K rate in AA, but he is only a reliever.

Hey welcome aboard! :redneck

Edwin Almonte was a top ten prospect that hit a wall as a releif pitcher,at one time he had an impressive resume as a closer, but would probably be more a set up guy at the MLB level.

Royce Ring was a first round draft pick as a lefty closer in college,he is close to being ready for the next level, but I am not convinced it will be as a closer,he may be better suited as a lefty specialist, with his stuff he could also be converted into a starter,he has a good curve and change-up,but only an average fastball with little movement.

Salvo is an A ball bench player that does nothing outstanding,he is possibly a future infield utility player with some on base skills, but I don't see him ever being a starter at the MLB level,or for that matter ever making it out of the minors.

Ring will give every team in the NL (and AL) fits.
Almonte, who is originally a NYC kid, will be a good role player, but he needs to rebound from his poor start in AAA this year.
Salvo...don't know him, except he's 23.

That's what I figured. And nice board!!! Some of the applications yoy have here gives me ideas for my board, since I now use the same software.

BTW I think Alomar will do well in Chicago. :)

You are probably the first NY fan that I've heard from who's said that. The Met's radio guy vented his spleen about Alomar this afternoon on WSCR.

I have not seen much of Alomar since he was with the Indians. As a Sox fan I sure hope the Sox get the Alomar of his Indians days and not the player that the Mets broadcaster described.

I heard that Mets broadcaster on WSCR, and boy did he sound angry. I personally think that he once asked Robbie to sign a baseball for his kid and he refused. A switch to the AL central is good for Robbie, and now he is in a pennant race! Damn I wish I didn't have to work at night, otherwise I would be at the park to see Robbie's Sox debut.

Any word if Carl Everett will be in tomorrow's lineup?

Alomar may or may not be in the line-up tomorrow. Reports said he may have to tie up some loose ends in NY. My guess is he'll be here...

From the Tribune:
The Sox believe Alomar will be in uniform for Wednesday night's game against the Twins. The 12-time All-Star said he might need more time to "get everything settled" in New York.

As the only Sox/Mets diehard in the Western Hemisphere, for me it's win-win.

Or lose -lose if Alomar HAS lost it and the prospects all blow.

But I agree with others that have posted, playing with his bro should get Alomar going.

How do Met fans feel about losing Alomar? Is it true he didn't give 100% all the time and didn't like NY?

There were times he loafed it. There were just stupid plays, from a "smart" player. Like bunting with two strikes. Diving into first. Bunting with runners in scoring position. He didn't hustle. He claims he liked NY, but there is evidence to the contrary.
