He told stories and answered questions for a little more than an hour. He was very good with these Sox-snubbing exceptions:

1) Mentioned Cubs at least dozen times and Sox all of once - and then just to say that Sox-Cubs is clearly one of the top IL matchups.

2) Mentioned Harry Caray and his St. Louis, Cub announcing days - never mentioning the Sox years.

3) Recalled broadcast where Harry said that Jose Vizcaino shouldn't lose a pop-up in the sun because he's from Mexico. THIS COMMENT WAS FIRST SAID ABOUT JORGE ORTA at least 10 years before he ever made the Vizcaino remark (if he ever really made the Vizcaino remark).

Yup....harry first made that comment as a SOX Announcer. Like how hes giving the Cubs a pat on the back for not being Too-Proud and digging in the other teams' scrap heap. Cant wait
to meet Mr. Costas and discuss this with him......

None of this should come as a surprise.

I remember one time Costas was interviewed and was talking about the charm of the Cubbies and how their losing ways made them so attractive to their fans when he was asked why the White Sox didn't draw the same feelings since they had gone nearly as long without a World Series win.

His response was to talk about the White Sox having a history of greed, and there being a sense that the lack of a world championship was their just punishment.

Im close to awarding him the Mark Prior Mr. Arrogance Trophy,
but doing that will only Assure him of being the Next
Commissioner of Baseball. Can you imagine a Commissioner
who loves the Cubs ?? Nothing Good can possibly come of
these Disturbing Developments......

Costas said his response was to talk about the White Sox having a history of greed

and the lie is that statement is exactly what?

Oh I'm sorry it was some other owner that orchestrated the 94 strike, destoryed his own fan base, cost his team a trip to the post season and then in a cost cutting move gutted the squad before the 95 season opened.

Foolish me!

This has to be the perfect post. In its entirety, it summarizes the man, and yet every word (if you hyphenate long-time) taken individually describes the man.

And what baseball franchise, pray tell, does NOT have a history
of greed? Yankees? Red Sox? Cubs?

Boob's other favorite team, the Red Sox, resisted integration up
until 1959. Is their lack of titles their just punishment?

Every owner lined up against the players in 1994, every one, including the Cubs. They could've lined up against Reinsdorf,
they did not.

Steinbrenner is greedy, I'd say. He has yet to be "punished."
I could go on, but it would turn to rambling. My point is that
every single team in baseball has been "greedy" and has done
something that deserves "punishment." For Costas to single
out the Sox for that kind of garbage demonstrates that he has
a titanic ego and his head up his you-know-what.

And Lip, spare me your trite "the truth hurts, doesn't it?" BS.
I know that the great Satan Reinsdorf committed foul crimes
against America, that is not my point. My point is what I said
in the above paragraphs about all of baseball. I am just ful-
minating because I am a humble clerk with no way to take
Costas' flawed reasoning and throw it back into his smarmy, egomaniacal face. Period.

By the way, there is a Cubs website doing a similar thing.
A fan paid tribute to his fellow Cub fans' loyalty through
all those losing years by quoting Harry saying (I have to
paraphrase) that when the season is over and the team
has won its 70 games, you feel that the fans deserve a
medal.

Well, Harry DID say that. In the early '80's, about White Sox
fans. I know because the quote appears in "SOX: From Lane
and Fain to Zisk and Fisk" by Bob Vanderberg, which was pub-
lished in 1981. I believe Vanderberg interviewed Caray before
he headed north. I no longer have the book, but it is at the
library.

You're presuming that anybody who spends time on a Cubs fan web site would know what a library is, or how to seriously read. I picture most of them using Cubs web sites to take a break from porno and give their fingers a rest.
