Man, it wasn't until I just heard the Twinkies announcers comment that "The Sox have put much more emphasis on this series than the Twins ... they're struggling just to get to the .500 mark!" that I realized the only team I hate more than the Twins is the Flubs.

Armando Rios has apparently been given the start at DH tonight. I hope that doesn't mean that "you know who" is not playing.

If the Twins aren't careful, the Sox are going to pass them in the standings. I'd say there's cause for concern in Minnesota, in spite of what sources close to the team are saying. I wonder if we'll see a brawl tonight.

They have to play him if they want to trade him.

I realize that, but they aren't going to get any decent offers for him if he stinks up the joint.

How good is Justin Morneau supposed to be? The Twins have been playing him just about every day.

Here you go.

2. Justin Morneau, 1b

Age: 21. B-T: L-R. Ht.: 6-4. Wt.: 205. Drafted: HS–New Westminster, B.C., 1999 (3rd round). Signed by: Howard Norsetter.

Background: Drafted as a catcher out of the North Delta Blue Jays program in the B.C. Premier League, Morneau has settled in at first base after experimenting in the outfield during instructional league in 2001. Injuries have hampered him throughout his career. Last spring, he lost 25 pounds due to an intestinal infection and missed the first week of the season at Double-A New Britain.

Strengths: Morneau’s lefthanded stroke is one of the sweetest in the minors. He produces outstanding power with a classic finish. He shows the ability to cover the plate and center the ball. His plus-plus bat speed propels the ball off his bat, and he has the best game power of any prospect in the system.

Weaknesses: As a first baseman, Morneau will be adequate but won’t be an asset like incumbent Doug Mienkiewicz, a Gold Glover. Morneau worked on his hands and footwork in the Arizona Fall League.

The Future: Morneau should produce well-above-average power and average. Mienkiewicz’ job won’t be in jeopardy until 2004, though Morneau could force his way into the Twins lineup as a DH by the all-star break in 2003.

I'm really impressed with the way Carlos Lee has carried himself this season. His numbers could be better, but it's obvious that he's putting forth a great deal of effort out there.

Which one of these teams looks like the first place squad?

BTW, In game 2, Cleveland jumped out to a 2-0 lead and is still batting in the first last I heard.

Not only is the whole "circle me" thing by the Twins fans/announcers REALLY lame, but the Twinks' color analyst just made fun of tomorrow's Pepsi Half Price night, saying you have to wear a Pepsi cap or T-shirt to get the discount. What a couple of morons.

Leave it to Twins announcers to say something stupid like that. They have no class whatsoever. If the Twins were winning this game, they wouldn't even bother talking about tomorrow yet. What a bunch of turds!

Nice job, Maggs.

I hope Maggs can get it going in order to help Frank out. The same goes for Carlos and Valentin. If the Sox can get consistent production from those four guys, they will tough to beat.

Ron Gardenhire had better not bitch and complain about the score after this one is over. If I should learn that he was whining, I will...

...I'll think of something.

Why is Daubach in the game now? The Sox have control of the game. There's no reason to take Frank out at this pont. Besides, Daubach should have started the game, but Manuel had to ruin that by playing Rios.

06-30-2003, 09:22 PM
Marte is in. This isn't a bad move. Marte has been struggling, so a low-pressure situation may do him some good.

No reason to risk injury to Thomas with the game in hand, plus you appease Daubach by getting him some time in the field, even if it is garbage time.

If Gary Glover (or, I guess, David Sanders) gets the 9th, then I won't complain about Marte getting the 8th.

Yeah, two left over Cub fans from the weekend drowned.

RKMeibalane
06-30-2003, 09:35 PM
Major League Baseball needs to establish a rule that makes the wave illegal. Perhaps threatening anyone who violates this rule with immediate ejection from the game would be appropriate.

You know, out here in E-hart there is no sox game radio broadcast. When the game is on ch. 26, I don't see it. The scrubs are VERY big here. I exist on faith alone. The sox(owe us) are due for a big time run or else kenny- riensdorf backs up the truck. :gulp:

And it's about time they actually beat Cy Mays. They should have handed him the loss last week in what should have been a sweep in the Hump, so nailing down tonight's win was sweet.
Only two under .500!!!
