Good the see the stupid baserunning came on the plane with the Sox to Minnesota. I wonder if DJ will be held accountable? Oh wait, that doesn't happen on this team...

RBI single by Thomas. 2-0 Sox.

Still 2-0 after six. Hocking doubled with one out, but did not score.

Crede drew a walk. Can Olivo capitalize with two outs?

RKMeibalane

Damn. Still 2-0 going into the bottom of the seventh.

Loaiza with 87 pitches in the 8th. Smart money's on Koch closing tonight.

BTW, the Twins announcers mentioned that the Royals will be in first by percentage points if the Twins lose...

The Sox get nothing in the eighth.

Good. Anything that lowers the Twins' confidence helps the Sox. If Minnesota realizes that they can be beaten, they may play right into the Sox hands.

I like how Loaiza gets the '"stop wasting time" boos when he throws to first to hold Kielty... meanwhile, Kielty dives and barely makes it back. Stupid Twins fans...

VALENTIN!?!? WHAT THE CRAP WAS THAT??? tailor-made DP with 2 men on thrown 5 feet away from Konerko and to the wall scoring the Twins run. Guzman grounds out to end the inning, but JESUS!!!! 2-1 Sox, top 9

Why not take out Valentine in the late inning for defense??
 As long as I am at it, Rowand should have pinch hit for Harris also.

Worst part is, I dont think I trust one person in our bullpen.

This bottom frame is going to kill me...

RKMeibalane
06-24-2003, 09:21 PM
Speaking of defensive replacements, I'm getting tired of seeing Konerko's face out there in the final innings. He isn't that much better than Frank, and if I were managing, I would want my best hitter in the game if it went into extra innings.

Koch and Marte warming up in the 'pen. Lee with a double. 1 out.

RKMeibalane

The Sox need to get that run back, or else they're going to end blowing this game. If they do that, then they may as well go home.

Loaiza should pitch the ninth. He NEEDS to pitch the ninth. I don't trust anyone out of that bullpen.

As soon as I heard Koch was warming up in the bullpen, I left the room so my wife can watch the game in peace. I'm at the computer blasting music so I can't see/hear this guy pitch.

Of course I'm assuming JM bought him in.

And, of course, Koch comes in to relieve Marte, who replaced Loaiza. Why can't Manuel allow his starters to at least try to finish the game?

Koch better find that 5 mph on his fastball in the next two games or else he will blow one save in the next two nights. Mark my words on that one.

Man you guys kill me...

Reading these posts after the game is funny.

Sox Win! Sox Win!

Nice game all the way around. Sox made some good fundamental plays and some bad fundamental plays. How about Frank Thomas fighting off an inside pitch to drive in the winning run with 2 outs? Anyone else on this team starts to hit consistently it would be really helpful...

I had the same thought, voodoo. After Frank walked in the eighth, it suddenly hit me that the rest of the league is starting to pitch around him again in order to get to Maggs. The reason? Pitchers are afraid of him again, and they would much rather face a double-play machine like Ordonez. Frank is going to need help, or else the Sox aren't going to score any runs.

LOL!!!!

How do you think Loiaza felt ? :D:

After the way Marte mowed down the first two batters, and the fact that a left was coming up after Hunter, bringing in Koch was stupid.

Our manager contiues to make guesses that drive me nuts.

However, the players trends of crumbling seem to have changed a little.

That was a huge hit by Thomas.

Koch battled back from 2-0. Marte looked good, which makes a lot of things better for the future.

Any one else think that Olivo is starting to turn into a really good player?

Jimenez should not play every day, and neither should Valentin.

Saracen
06-24-2003, 10:32 PM
I've got no problem bring Koch in - if we're going to make a run, we need him to face pressure situations now so he's ready down the road.

Valentin & Jimenez are brutal. If a trade is made, it should be for a middle infielder.

SoxxoS
06-24-2003, 10:42 PM
The question is, what is easier to find, a CF or a 2B. Willie Harris can play 2B, and I would imagine has a lot more range that Jimenez. But then we have a hole a CF. I would think there is going to be someone available for the taking that won't cost that much (see Charles Johnson of 2000) at the 2B or CF positions.

I was still in the car for the first inning or so, but John Rooney almost blew a gasket on some play where Jiminez got doubled up at second base on a soft liner to end the inning. Did anybody see this play? Details?

I saw it. The Sox had Jimenez on second and Thomas on first with one out. Magglio was up and hits a soft liner to the left of the second baseman. The second baseman catches it, turns and fires a perfect throw to the SS for an inning ending DP as Jimenez hopelessly tries to get back.

The thing about this play was from where the ball was hit, it was easier for the second baseman (whose names escapes me...it's late) to turn and throw to first. The only thing was there was NO play at first as Thomas was smart enough to not get far off first base.

My advice to Jimenez: LET THE LINERS GO THROUGH.

I've heard this since little league.

Two observations about this game:

1. Jimenez still is a stupid baserunner. I know he's slumping a little right now, but his OBP is getting more and more average daily whichc makes his value to the team decrease unless he either wises up on the base paths or starts hitting better.

2. It was good to see the Sox work the pitcher for deep counts. Reed threw 116 pitches in 7 innings, with like 79 for strikes. The Sox worked him and kept fouling balls off. Maybe those hits will start falling sometime soon.

I did not see the game today, but I am very happy with the win. Yet I did read about DJ getting doubled off. People alwasy bring up the fact that he has one of the higher OBP's on the team. 2 questions I have from that. First, even though it's one of the higher ones on the team, should that matter. Shoudn't we have a different "bar" besides comapring it agianst other hitters on the team. Second, since when does OBP mean ANYTHING if you keep making stupid LITTLE LEAGUE mistakes on the basepaths. Would'nt you rather have a guy who hit's .500 and is fundamentally sound on the basepath, or a guy who hits .600 and gets thrown out on stupid little plays every game?

soxrme
06-25-2003, 08:55 AM
I never doubted any of them.
