If we win, and Minne loses, we are obviously 3.5 out of 1st place. Remeber the last time we were 3.5 games behind first place in, oh, say-1997?

I think this is a little diffrent than that year. We have a relatively young team this time. I dont' see a white flag part 2 unless something dramatic happens.

does this chump do this every game? Run out to right field, taking a big turn, with his hands on his ear hamming it up? How does the rest of this world not see this as like doing a silly dance in the endzone, without having actually scored.

Damn bad luck with the batting order. Colon up with the bases loaded. Nice strike two call huh?? At least the last cut by Bartolo looked good. Just keep us in this Bartolo.

It seems like the only good news is that Zambrano has already thrown 59 pitches and Farnsworth and Wellemeyer are almost certainly unusable. Only Veres, Borowski and 6-fingered Alfonseca might be able to go

Nice job of situational hitting by Crede, but does anyone else notice Karros is really bad at making a point of touching the bag?

On that big hop ground out by Ordonez, it was 50/50 as to whether or not he stayed on the bag.

A Harris grounder to first he just leisurely made his way to the bag and only beat Harris by a step or two...

And on Crede's grounder man, it sure looked like he barely knicked the corner of the bag.

Hey, Welcome Aboard! :D:

I wish it was under better circumstances, and I totally agree with your assessment...

Let's break down the whole decision to remove Bartolo...

1)He was pitching a 3 hit shutout and was under 100 pitches. That is where I draw the rule in the sand. You NEVER remove a pitcher under those circumstances.

2)What was with that double switch? Why pull Crede - the best defensive player on the team - just because he made the last out. Pull Carlos and put the pitcher in the 5 hole. Put Rowand in LF and have him bat 9th. No, it didn't effect the outcome of the game, but it shows how bad Manuel truly is at these type of decisions.

3)After pulling his famous double switch, Manuel then proceeded to PH for Graffanino anyway. Should the Sox have tied it up, exactly WHO was going to play

4)For a guy who has been touted as the best reliever in the Sox bullpen, Marte has been pitching like crap in his recent opportunities 3B in the bottom half of the ninth?

You are only doing the opposition favors by taking out a dominant starter. Colon knew the strike zone, he knew how to pitch against lefties. Colon looked the best today against Harris and Patterson, 2 left-handers!

Un-stinkin-believable. I told my wife as soon as I saw what Jerry was doing that the Sox were doomed now that he was tinkering and then switched channels and started watching a documentary on channel 11. By the time I turned back....sho' nuff. How is it that if schlubs like us have enough sense not to do these things, that these highly-paid professional, lifelong, career baseball men can't see it? Frustrating. :?:

You'd think this would pish KW over the edge. His prized offseason acquisition, who leads MLB in complete games over the last year, is pulled with a 1-0 lead.

This isn't the Giants, Manuel. Troy O'Leary is Not Barry freeking Bonds.

GO AWAY, GO VERY FAR AWAY. .

valposoxfan

I agree it was a terrible decision. I'm extremely pissed right now but look, we took two of three from division leaders. We MUST do the same in Minnesota...MUST. We can do this. Heartbreaking loss to Giants, come back and beat Padres the next day. Tough loss to Pads, come back and beat the BoSox the next day. We can take two of three. We just need to win series. Also, FIRE JERRY MANUEL!!! Go Sox!! Shake it off everyone. Let's take at least two of three from them next weekend.

ilsox7
06-22-2003, 05:31 PM
The problem is, with manuel as a manager we start every game behind the 8 ball. But yes, the bottom line is that this team needs to get to .500 ASAP. If we do that, then it's time to get optimistic.

Lip Man 1

Something about the 8th inning isn't it? For the 5th time this season the Sox have lost the lead in the 8th inning of a game they went on to lose.

Overall the bullpen has now blown 8 games where they took a lead into the 7th inning or later and wound up losing.

Sickening, especially against the Cubs.

While I agree that Manuel is a big part of the loss the fact is that the real White Sox returned. One run off Carlos Zambrano with some blown chances that cost them dearly.

Like Bob said "one step forward...two steps back..." Now it's on to the personal house of horrors, the Metrodome. This should be fun!

Also for what it's worth this appeared in Ken Rosenthal's "around the bases" column in The Sporting News..."Once they concede, one agent expects them to reduce payroll by as much as $20 million. Trading Bartolo Colon, left fielder Carlos Lee and shortstop Jose' Valentin would do the trick..."

20 MILLION?

Lip

ilsox7
06-22-2003, 06:32 PM
I agree with a lot of that. Has out offense sucked? Yes. But coming into this year, the bullpen was supposed to be a big strength. Koch was supposed to dominate with a 100 mph fastball. Marte was supposed to set him up. Gordon and Kelly were supposed to be there to work one batter or maybe even an inning. This simply has not happened.

As for trades: If they decide to give up on 2003 AND decide they will not resign Colon, then I can see a Colon and Lee package. If this is done, I would hope to see a quality center fielder in return. Doing so would put Borchard in left, where he probably should be. Now who can we get? Who knows at this point...

Just some thoughts.
