Personal favorite quote from the article:

"Like 10-year-old fans, MLB officials looked for a reason to believe Sosa's statement about accidentally using a bat that he kept around only to help him show off during batting practice. That's why they did the ridiculous sweep of the Cubs' clubhouse, gathering up 76 bats for X-rays that your HMO never would authorize."

way to call the kettle black Phil, thanks,

good info on the still photos too; just too hard to believe the 1 in 76 chance he picked up the wrong bat by mistake-yeah right, plus its more than that because players "know" their bats well, its more like 1 in a thousand if you include the knowledge bias,

interesting how bud and the league sweep the dirt under the rug for one of the their (former) media darlings

Sosa's peers leery of explanation (http://usatoday.com/sports/baseball/2003-06-05-sosa-peers-leery_x.htm)

"I know my bats. I know every bat I have. I know what's marked, what's not marked." - Gary Sheffield.

"Why do you have to have a corked bat to put on a show? How about doing it the old-fashioned way, doing it without the cork?" - Frank Robinson.

Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins said he uses a heavier bat usually 1.5 ounces heavier than his game bat during batting practice. He said a heavier bat helps keep his swing fundamentally sound and makes his mistakes easier to detect.

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Danny Graves was disgusted by the corked bat and didn't buy Sosa's explanation.

"It makes you wonder," Graves said. "I'm sure not all 505 home runs he hit were with corked bats, but it makes you wonder how many were. He doesn't need a corked bat. That's why I don't understand."

Sad part is, it makes you wonder how much longer Phil will have a job. Because the Trib would never do anything that was in a direct conflict of intrest.
