Sosa vs. Thomas, 2003

This evening I was talking to a Cub fan friend. Of course most of the conversation centered on Sosa's corked bat. My Cub fan friend said a few times that usual "Frank Thomas sucks..."

For the Cub fans that are reading this, I never said or implied in the conversation that Sosa "sucks". As I've said numerous times, Sosa is one helluva slugger.

In no way am I pleased with Frank's production and Sosa's certainly been struggling lately. But I thought I'd compare Sosa and Thomas' stats. I was a bit surprised to see that in quite a few statistical categories Frank is actually doing better than Sosa.

I sure hope that Frank goes on a tear, not to do better than Sosa but to help pull the Sox out of the tailspin they've been in.

So Thomas has more homers per game that "slammin' sammy sosa*" 1 in every 5 for thomas (11/55) and 15% of the time for Sosa*

Slugging and OBP is about equal, but Frank's may have risen a lot because he got on base 4 times out of 5 tonight. Sosa has struck out a helluva lot more in less time.

frank's performed as well or better than sammy this season. there's no denying that.
