The near miss of 2001
Will be recorded soon
The sox finish like 4-5
Games off the pace
And but for several games
like the one yesterday against
the A's couldve, wouldve, and
shouldve.

Soo that said
Whats to keep and
Whats to ship out
in the months ahead.

Key Questions
Who Leads Off - Nobody in the system is close
Need to trade to fill this void
Who Plays Center
Can Rowand or Borchard really deliver the needed D?
If not which corner IF/OF should be traded?
Can Ramirez develop as a hitter?
The pitching is plentiful but
Adding some seasoning seems prudent
Catching is adequate if Alomar returns
Johnson is a great #2 catcher and Oliva will be ready
by 2nd half of 02 or 03
Improve team OBP a big goal
Improve middle defense also important

I think the priority for the off season must be to get a true lead off hitter. We may have to part with someone like Ray to do it but we need to have a runner on base in the first inning of every game.

A veteran starter might not be a bad idea either.

Just about zero percent of that is going to happen.
Durham will be at 2nd base and batting first next year.

What about signing Kenny Lofton for a 1-year bridge to Borchard in CF???? I really-really don't like him or his attitude, but to have him on the bases and leading off, putting Ray in the 2-hole, would be pretty good.....

I just don't see them paying Lofton when a cheaper player in Rowand is there. If you put Ray in the 2 hole where in the order would you bat Valentin?

The first question is where do we play valentin, if the intitial poster's well conceived moves are made?

He'll be at SS with Clayton traded.
Crede has to be at 3rd next year, if he isn't something is wrong.
