thats key. Spending 55 Million on a Hitter back in 1996 was OK, but we needed a PITCHER at that year.

I don't think it is any of those. If I had to go off-field for an answer, I'd say it is this teams unwillingness to make changes. Look at the Reds; they ditched a good portion of their starting rotation when it wasn't working, and they went on a run. THe Sox were content to keep running Judy Garland out to the mound.
