Both the Winston-Salem Warthogs and Kannapolis Intimidators were rained out last night.

Birmingham and Charlotte probably wish they had been as well!

Birmingham lost in Orlando, 6-1. The losing pitcher was Brian West (1-2). Gabe Alvarez hit a homerun for the Barons in the 7th off Travis Minix.

Charlotte was trounced by the Rochester Red Wings (the dreaded Twins AAA affiliate), 16-6. Jon Rauch only allowed three hits in five innings of work, but all three were home runs. Scoring for the Knights were: Aaron Miles -- home run in the 3rd, Scott Morgan and Jamie Burke with back to back homers. (Scott's was a 3 run shot.) Charlotte had the lead 5-4.

After Charlotte padded its lead with an RBI single by Mario Valenzuela in the fifth, the Red Wings exploded for 12 runs in the final three innings off of the Charlotte bullpen (Diaz, Kohlmeier, and Majewski).

Ford, Morneau, and Restovich all connected for two home runs on the evening, and the Red Wings slugged twelve extra base hits in all. The seven home runs hit by the Wings tied a Rochester franchise record set on June 24, 1919. On the night, Ford, Restovich, and Morneau combined to go 11-16 with six home runs, ten runs scored, and thirteen driven in.
