View Full Version : "small ball"

Small ball is killing us. We try it at the wrong times, and can't execute it anyway. MAYBE if we start a baserunner every now and then, we wouldn't have hit into 1,239,235 double plays already this season. EVERY time we get a man on first we either hit into a double play or mess up a bunt. Even if the bunt is successful, all the other team has to do is walk the next guy with first base open and the GUY AFTER HIM will hit into the DP! Funny how our last "small ball" move that worked (the double steal, inlcuding home) was when MANUEL WAS OUT OF THE GAME! Granted, the Twins made an error on the play, but they wouldn't have made that error with Manuel in charge because HE WOULD NOT HAVE CALLED THAT! THERE HAS TO BE A WAY TO QUIT HITTING INTO A DOUBLE PLAY EVERY TIME WE GET THE LEADOFF MAN ON! I wonder what the team batting average is with the bases empty compared to with runners in scoring position. THERE IS NO CLUTCH HITTING ON THIS TEAM. You can bunt all you want, but even if the bunt works, which with this team is about 20% of the time, NOBODY CAN GET THE MAN IN WITH A HIT ANYWAY! Start a few runners here and there, try to hit to the opposite field, and what happens happens. Magglio is great, but he's just a step above Ko-jerko and the Skirt when it comes to avoiding the DP groundout.
