Hey guys, I posted a small minor league site for all those interested in following some of our "future stars"

http://www.geocities.com/wsox_minors/

Nothing fancy, just stats. Any suggestions are more than welcome, just be nice about it.

but I'd like to see OPS vs for the pitchers.

It would be nice to track their changes as the ascend to the bigs.

Gracias

I know he's young, but I'm losing confidence in his being the future SS of the SOX.

After looking over the numbers, here are my thought, FWIW.

AAA

Arnie Munoz has been disapointing. After the way he pitched in winter ball, I was expecting him to challenge to make the big leaugues this year, but he is struggling to get AAA hitters out. Was this mostly one bad start, or has he been consistently bad?

Joe Borchard has good numbers, but only 2 walks through 41 plate appearances isn't very good. Furthermore, he projects out to 123 strike outs over 600 at bats. It sounds like he still needs to work on plate discipline and cut down on his swing.

Popgun Willie Harris must be hitting with authority. Four homers through 62 at-bats is impressive for such a little guy. His walks project to 58 over 600 AB, so it looks like he is imrproving in that area.

Could it be that last year wasn't a fluke for Aaron Miles? It looks like he may have just been a late bloomer. He seems to really be putting it together for a late developing prospect.

AA

Neil Cotts has had good results so far, but he and Corwin Malone really need to cut down on the walks. Malone has allowed 19 BB in 19.1 IP. That's terrible.

Is there a law that says all Sox closers must blow 2 saves early? Royce Ring is already 0-2 with a WHIP of 1.50. I know it's early, but can someone tell me why Kenny drafted a 22 year old relief pitcher in the first round?

Why are there only 7 hitters listed? How is Battersby doing?

A-Winston Salem

Usually when you draft someone out of college, you expect them to be near the big leagues within a couple of years. What the heck is Wyatt Allen still doing at Winston Salem? Wasn't this guys supposed to have a great curveball at Tennessee? Has any injury set him back or something?

Francisco Franko-WOW!!! That guy is hot right now, and the generalisimo is still dead.

Kris Honel is pitching well. That's good to see.

What's up withRyan Wing? Where do the Sox find all these tought lefties? 3-0 with a .50 and .78 Whip is awesome. Wow!

Jeremy Reed, Casey Rogowski, and Mike Spidale are all in double digit walks already. That's great to see. Rogowski is out to an early .472 OBP, which is quite impressive.

A-Kannapolis

Anthony Webster is the only guy who really stands out. I like that .392 OBP.

Good question.

I'm really trying to be selective on whose stats I put up. Guys who are 27-28 years old playing in AA aren't really someone who I think deserves to be tracked. Unless I get a special request to display someone (eg. Tetsu Yofu), I'm going to leave out the players that I consider to be too old to be considered prospects.

Hope this clears up any questions.

Hello. Your site is great! I hope everyone here will check it out. It's great to find all the Sox teams' info in ONE place.

Just wanted to fill you in on some roster changes for the Warthogs.

On the DL (in Tucson):
Curreri
Murray
Phillps
Stumm
(Yes...they're ALL pitchers...interesting???)

Moved to Kannapolis:
Ciraco
Salvo

Moved to Winston from Birmingham:
Daylan Holt (outfield)

I hope this helps. If we have any more moves, do you want me to let you know? I'd be glad to help.

Keep up the great work!!!

Just to update your roster for Winston-Salem: today John Lackaff, 3b, was sent to Tucson to rehab a hamstring injury. I don't know who will replace him on the Warthogs' roster. Will keep you posted whenever I find out.

Your site is great!

The Warthogs received Tommy Nicholson from Charlotte today. He will be a utility infielder while John Lackaff is rehabbing. As usual, the Sox continue the Revolving Door Policy. There is NO stability in the minor leagues.

The rosters are incorrect, sorry about that. Thanks to the guys who are letting me know of all the errors, once I get some time I will go through and correct them.

Enjoy....

what's up with Brad Murray and Heath Phillips?

Im excited about Cotts. During ST, Farmer and Rooney compared him to Buerhle and said they were very similar

Brad Murray and Heath Phillips are both in Tucson, on the DL. I've heard that Heath is almost ready to come back to W-S. Jason Stumm is now with the Warthogs, as well as Mitch Wiley. I'm just wondering where we're going to put everybody.

rdivaldi

Until Cotts starts economizing his pitches, there is no way that you compare him to Buehrle.

Here's a comparison of their AA stats:

Mark Buerhle (2000 - AA)
118.2 IP
95 H
17 BB
68 SO
2.28 ERA
0.94 WHIP

Neal Cotts (2003 - AA)
40.2 IP
23 H
29 BB
58 SO
1.77 ERA
1.28 WHIP

Way too many walks for Cotts. I don't think he'll be effective at the major league level until he learns some control.

thecell
05-16-2003, 03:14 PM
If he can cut those walks in half his stats would be pretty good. The K's may negate some of those walks but you can't count on that in the bigs. Thanks for the info, rdivaldi!

rdivaldi
05-16-2003, 03:39 PM
I agree cell, you can't count on major league hitters swinging at bad pitches like you can in AA.

Cotts has a great upside, but until he gets some control over his cutter, he might not be anything more than a reliever.

So far this season we have had some MAJORLY disappointing performances by guys who needed to rebound from last year. Corwin Malone, Brian West, and Jon Adkins are at the top of that list.

Here's his bio from LBSU, http://www.longbeachstate.com/bbo/bbc/BIO/biobbcreed02.html

Last year mlb.com had this for his draft bio:

JEREMY REED LF L/L 6'0" 185 06/15/1981

COMMENT: Lean, muscular, athletic body. Well defined arms and legs. Good bat speed. Line-drive hitter with occasional power, hits to all fields. Solid defensively. Base-stealing threat. Type of player you want on your team.
