A great come-back win. This game was played in VERRRRRRRY windy conditions and had some unusual plays because of the wind. Guess it was good practice for the future!

Warthogs comeback for 8-7 win on Thursday
The Winston-Salem Warthogs (9-1) lost a 6-2 lead then scored two late runs in their 8-7 win on Thursday night. Josh Fields earned the win despite giving up two runs on three hits in one and a third innings. Fields gave up go-ahead runs to the Keys in the eighth, but pitched a perfect ninth after the Warthogs took the lead back in the bottom of the eighth. Carl Makowsky fell apart for four walks in the eighth, and was saddled with the loss.

For the eighth time in 10 games Winston-Salem scored first. In the bottom of the second, Casey Rogowski walked and advanced to second on a groundout by Eric Welsh. Brian Becker knocked Rogowski in with an RBI single making it 1-0. Frederick took the lead in the top of third off a Tripper Johnson two-run, two-out double. All seven of the Keys runs came with two outs.

The Hogs scored five runs in the fifth to seemingly take control of the game. Eric Storey hit a leadoff homerun, his second of the season, out to right to tie the game at 2. Edwin Yan followed with a walk and a steal of second. Yan gave the Warthogs the lead after being sacrificed to third by Normand Martel and scoring on a wild pitch. Casey Rogowski walked and Eric Welsh’s pop fly to right was misplayed by Kris Wilken to put runners at first and second. Brian Becker then homered to left putting the Warthogs up 6-2.

The Keys came back with an RBI double by Ryan Hubele in the top of the sixth. Down 6-3 the Key scored four runs in the top of the eighth to take the lead 7-6. Brandon Fahey, Gary Cates, and Rany Ruiz had RBIs in the half inning. The Warthogs took the lead back in the bottom of the eighth. Mike Morse walked and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Stewart. Rudy Yan doubled to left to knot the score at 7. Normand Martel and Jeremy Reed would reach base on consecutive walks. Casey Rogowski followed with and RBI bases walk to take the lead for good 8-7.

Game two of the four game series will be at 7:15pm on Friday. RHP Kris Honel will pitch for the Warthogs. Frederick will give the ball to Dave Crouthers.
