Warthogs Lose for First Time at Myrtle Beach

The Winston-Salem Warthogs (8-1) lost for the first time this season 5-1 at Myrtle Beach on Wednesday night. Macay McBride earned the win for the Pelicans after tossing six innings yielding just three hits, walking and striking out two. Byeong An dropped to 1-1 with the loss.
An tossed 5 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on nine hits.

The Pelicans got on the board in the first on a RBI sacrifice fly by Andy Marte. Myrtle Beach added two runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Charles Thomas and a RBI double from Brayan Pena. In the sixth, the Pelicans scored on a RBI ground out by Carlos Duran and a RBI double from Isaac Iorg. The Hogs scored their lone run in the eighth. Ruddy Yan reached on an infield bunt single, was balked to second and scored on Jeremy Reedís two-out RBI double. Winston-Salem only managed five hits on the night. Winston-Salem committed three errors as well after leading the Carolina League with just five errors through its first eight games.

The Warthogs return home to begin a seven game home stand on Thursday. Thursday will be Thirsty Thursday against the Frederick Keys, with discounted beverages all night long. Frederick will send to the mound RHP Richard Bartlett (1-0, 1.80). Winston-Salem will counter with RHP Wyatt Allen (0-0, 4.00).
