Warthogs Earn Second Shutout at Myrtle Beach

The Winston-Salem Warthogs (8-0) remained unbeaten with a 5-0 win at Myrtle Beach on Tuesday night. Franklin Francisco, Scott Patten, and Josh Fields combined for the second straight shutout of the Pelicans. Francisco earned the win in his 2003 debut. All three pitchers combined to strike out 13, walk two and yield just one hit. Gonzalo Lopez gave up three runs in four innings in the loss.

The Warthogs got on the board early in the top of the first. Ruddy Yan earned a walk and stole second. Yan reached third when the throw from catcher JC Boscan got away to second and rolled into right centerfield. Yan scored on a Jeremy Reed RBI ground out. Casey Rogowski walked, stole second, and scored on Eric Welsh’s RBI single.

Daylan Holt, sent down from AA Birmingham on Sunday, put the Warthogs up 3-0 with a homerun to left in the fourth. Winston-Salem added single runs in the fifth and sixth from RBI doubles by Jeremy Reed and Eric Storey. Seven different Warthogs had hits on Tuesday. Jeremy Reed had two hits and two RBIs.

The finale of the three game series will be on Wednesday at 6:05pm. LHP Byeong An will take to the mound for Winston-Salem. Myrtle Beach will counter with LHP Macay McBride. All the live play by play will be heard on 600am WSJS in the Winston-Salem area, or on the internet at www.warthogs.com.
