Defenders of Jerry Manuel claim that the losing is not his fault because he is not out there making errors, throwing gopher balls to the opposition, or leaving men on base. That is very true in a literal sense, but...
...it is my contention that at least half of those errors, gopher balls, and LOB's occur because our team does not care. Guys, Jerry Manuel is baseball's answer to Dick Jauron. And like Jauron, Manuel lacks the motivational skill to inspire this team. The lack of motivation I believe is a significant contributing factor to the errors, gopher balls, and LOB's. It is not the one only factor, mind you, but it is a prominent one.
