File this under "who cares?" if you want to, but Josh Bard batting 6th? Casey Blake in the lineup? The Indians offense is AWFUL.

That's what makes it so much more pathetic they've been more impressive than ours these first two innings.

WE never get the BIG defensive play when we need it-that inning could have been lots worse

I don't know. There's just something about this team that's missing. Kansas City and Cleveland look so much more disciplined at the plate than we do......pitching still scaring me from our No. 2....

I'll tell you one thing,Colon needs to lose some weight. If he got some of that fat off,he'd be more efficient.

We can't hit......

04-08-2003, 04:21 PM
Well, Ricardo Rodriguez is a pretty damn good pitcher. It's a shame to see Carlos Lee seemingly reverting to his hacking ways early on.

WooHoo Sandy Alomar with the big hit...

Now watch, that means he'll be hitting for himself with the game on the line in the 8th...

Get him out of there for the 6th - no need to risk injury this early in the season.

Get this Rodriguez kid out of there. They only gave up Paul SHuey for him? This maybe the fastest rebuilding ever in the MLB for the Tribe.
Good pick up for me in my fantasy team, but sheesh!

I hate Vizquel. The guy barely even looks like he's trying and he just kills us over and over again.

What does Daubach have to do to get in a game? Konerko and Lee are doing zilch

valposoxfan
04-08-2003, 05:39 PM
Wait!!! Did Konerko just kill another rally!!!???? That hasn't happened at all this season!!!!

FanOf14
04-08-2003, 05:43 PM
It may be early in the seasonm but Konerko is really pissing me off - what's the deal with him? He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn even if he tried lately. Manuel needs to but Daubach in for either Konerko or Lee because with the two of them in the game at the same time is really killing this offense. Over all, we really haven't seen much from 3-6 (Konerko being the worst with Lee fighting for the honors) in the lineup, nothing like we all expected.

Same here and yes he is. I wish I knew why Daubach is riding the pine with those two offensively-challenged persons in the lineup.

Yep, Konerko and Lee are putting up Choice-like numbers so far. :(:

HMMM... Carlos has swung at the first two pitches, popping the first one weakly into the seats, breaking his bat on a foul ball on the second pitch....HAVE SOME DAMN PATIENCE!!!!!!! O.K. He's at least turned this into a respectable at bat......but once again it's an easy out. Get him out.

czalgosz
04-08-2003, 06:26 PM
Okay, the Sox didn't deserve that one - only crappy pitching from the Indians bullpen allowed the Sox to salvage that game. I hope that the hitting heats up in time for the Twins series, that's all I have to say.

Although if the Twins pitching continues to self-destruct, it might not be an issue.

WhiteSoxWinner
04-08-2003, 06:32 PM
The offense has to heat up long before then. We should be beating up on these chump teams easily. If not, what happens when we play the good teams?

I just thought I would mention that's now 2 games where Koch has held, the team has scored late, & Koch closed out the last inning.

2 wins for Mr Koch in 7 gms. I think KW made a helluva a trade!

This would be an "L: with Foulke if he were used the same way

What I especially liked was that he was brought in with the game tied.

Anyway, now that I think about it, it was awfully cold in Cleveland today. It can't be easy to hit. I'll hold off on bashing the Sox offense (for now) and try to concentrate on the positives - like the fact that the Sox are winning close ballgames (something the Sox haven't been able to do the past couple years). Or that D'Angelo Jimenez looks better every game. Or that Joe Crede, despite my scepticism about him, is killing the ball. Or that Koch seems to have rebounded really nicely from that horrible outing in KC.

A win's a win. They've lost way too many like this one the last two years.

Have you seen Foulke pitch lately?I caught the end of the angels-A's game sunday and Keith was un-hittable.He did give up a homerun on an 0-2 pitch but that was only because he got a waste pitch too low over the plate.I've never seen him with better stuff, and better control.

I hope Foulke goes on to make the HOF and rack up 500 saves, but I am still happy with Koch as our closer...

I saw him live on Saturday vs. the Angels - he looked outstanding. He threw less than ten pitches and gave up nothing.

A few points:

1.Rick Petersen is the A's pitching coach. Jack McDowell said in his WSI Interview he was the finest pitching coach he ever had. Naturally the Sox got rid of him. Maybe he's seen some things in Foulke and corrected them.

2.Could Konerko's foot/ankle be bothering him? Like it did in the 2nd half of the season last year when he really tailed off?

3.I think Lee's amazing success at the plate last season was a fluke but we'll see what happens.

4.The Sox have had 5 quality starts in 7 games. If Jon Garland can ever get with the program and or Danny Wright get healthy and contribute this could be interesting.

5.Wouldn't it be just like the Sox to have the pitching come through instead of the hitting this year? (and come up short again?)

6.The Sox are 4-3 (a winning record) can we end the season right now? (LOL)

7.The Sox are 4-3, if they don't blow that game in K.C. they are 5-2 and off to a "great" start. One game CAN make a difference.

I don't think one should make any judgments on hitting yet, just because it's been so damn cold. Anyone who's played at any level in the North in the spring can tell you it's no fun to get into the box when it's 40 or below.
