A few things I've noticed already that haven't changed since last year:

1. For some reaoson this team can't seem to play well during the day. I'm too lazy to look up the stats but they have to have a horrible record the past few years in day games.

2. Why can the Sox never hit these AA/AAA pitchers? They always seem to make them look like Cy Young out there.

3. Can the Sox hold a lead for more than 1/2 an inning? Seems like every time the Sox score the pitcher goes out and gives it right back. Happened all last year and has so far the few times they've scored this year.

4. I'm going to just start turning my TV off if they are down after the 7th inning. The come back kids they are not...

I know they've only played 2 full games and 1 inning of today's game but I'm already starting to confuse this team with last year's team. Hopefully a win today will set my mind at ease...

A.T. Money
04-03-2003, 02:46 PM
What drives me nuts is their impatience at the plate. I'm not sure if they are just nervous or what, but they are up there hacking at the first and second pitch (Olivo just now followed by Jimenez).

Make this pitcher work for crying out loud! They had 3 f'n outs to get a hit and failed.

Now Jimenez booted a double play ball. This is making me sick. Blah.

That inning WAS brutal, and it hasn't changed in the second.

Garland goes 0-2 on the first guy and then serves up a lineshot single. Next guy hits a sharp potential DP ball to Jimenez - who loses it transfering it from his glove to his hand. Everybody safe...

Right after I posted this, they hit a DP ball to crede. 2 outs, man on third.

Forget the numbers on Randa. They mean nothing. As you said, the hits come at the worst time.

He just kills us. Gordon goes 3-2 on Randa, he fouls off like 10 pitches, and them Gordon plunks him. Can't get him out.

If we were blowing the Royals out, Randa makes an out. One run game, Randa get on somehow.

This wasn't the bullpens fault. I can count like 5 horrible strike zone calls by the 1st base umpire. Sweeney should have been out before anyone scored, a terrible umpiring job today

This is so pathetic. Something's not right when three games into the season you already wishing it would end. The thing is, the Sox aren't just losing. They look horrible too. I keep getting flashbacks of April 2001.

this team is making the 2001 team look like the '27 Yankees in comparison.

Well...

For once I guess I'm speechless. I don't think any baseball fan on the planet thought the Royals were going to sweep the Sox and make them look as bad as they did.

I guess the biggest concern right now is the defense which looked horrific. What five errors in three games (and according to reports could have been charged with three or four more)

The pitching was OK because of Buehrle and Colon but garland was awful today. These guys are tight and lifeless.

I guess this is about as bad as it gets. Right now the Sox are playing on the level of the Milwaukee Brewers.

What's ironic is that Bob Vanderburg, Sox author and Tribune asst. sports editor e-mailed me this morning saying he knew the Sox were going to get swept. He also thinks the Tigers will take two of three in "miserable weather before a small jerring crowd."

He predicts Manuel will be fired on May 12th with the Sox about ten games under .500 and that Colon and Ordonez will be dealt in July (Mags is slated to make 14 million next season). he thinks this will be the most disappointing year in the history of the Sox.

We'll see...so far he's been right.

No way in hell will they trade Mags. He's a franchise player yet to reach his peak. In the past, we've traded guys (especially pitchers) after their prime. I can see Manual getting fired. I could see Frank, Colon, Lee or Konerko being dealt to a contender around the All Star break. No way does this team part with Ordonez though. No chance.
