I found this on CBS rumor page --Brian Lawrence and Bubba Trammell for Carlos Lee and a minor leaguer? hmm, Trammell ain't anything special at all, Lawrence seems like sort of a lucky soft tosser who would get killed in the AL. He had a 3.69 ERA last year, but he gave up 20 more hits than innings pitched, so I don't know how good that sounds.

anyways, here's the link

I strongly doubt that rumor is true. Lawrence is the Pads ace and there not about to trade him after they just gave him a four year extension.

BTW, Brian Lawrence is a very good pitcher.

The Padres have BIG injury problems and need any offense they can get. Dont dismiss this yet.

That would open up a spot for Rowand and Borchard in the outfield. I think it would be a decent trade and lee could give them the offense they need however i think he is going to have a good season though so i would be sad if he left.

The Sox are looking for a spot for Daubach's left handed bat

For this deal to work the Sox's would need to include a top level prospect (like Rauch or Honel, maybe Corwin Malone).

The Pads are very high on Lawrence, last season they turned down a deal that would have sent them J.D Drew and Carlos' value isn't as high as Drew.

Generally You don't trade guys right after an extention, but with Nevin and posibly Burroughs down and even talk about Klesko not being 100% that certainly could mean SD needs a Bat....I don't want to move Carlos, but with the return on this and the posible contract implications this would be somethign to look very hard at

If it was actually on the CBS rumor mill I might believe it a little more. Those message boards are full of fake rumors. Don't bother putting any credence into any of those rumors. They're made up by idiots with nothing better to do.

BTW don't overrate J.D. Drew's value. He can't seem to stay healthy and if he doesn't get off to a good start this year look for him to lose more playing time to Eli Marrero.

If Kenny made this deal, do you think Lawrence is a good enough pitcher so that the Sox would not need to resign Colon to a big contract next year?

Lawrence is probably a 20-game winner on the Sox's.

But this trade will NOT happen!

Sox Better not even THINK OF TRADING HONEL !!!! Honel is going to be the Real Deal.....

I haven't heard one iota of this mentioned down here in Socal, so I don't think there is any truth to it.

If there was, I'd have to say this would be a tremendous deal. Lawrence is a pretty good pitcher.

From Newsday:
March 19, 2003
Lakeland, Fla. - Coincidence or not, Rondell White was in leftfield yesterday while three San Diego Padres scouts were in the stands watching the Yankees clobber the Tigers, 10-5. "I've heard the rumors," the affable White said with a shrug. "I don't think about them too much."
