Because MLB.com is not offering the radio broadcast of this afternoon's game vs. Oakland, I will do the best I can to provide updates.

As of this moment, the Sox are leading 1-0 in the second inning. I cannot provide any other information... yet. More to come.

My mistake. I didn't realize someone else had posted a similar thread. Ignore this one and use the thread started by Unregistered. Sorry for the confusion.

I didnt realize it until after i started the thread...

Top of the 5th, still 1-0 Sox.

Who is pitching today, anyone know? You know, for all the excuses last year about the air artificallyl inflating the pitchers numbers, that doesn't seem to be the case lately with the sox pitching this spring. Hmm...

As I said in the "other" official thread, the light Arizona air doesn't seem to be inflating our pitchers numbers like it did last spring. Very eeenteresting...

MLB.com's scoreboard is keeping up with the score. Not very quick, however.

Yahoo! Sports (sports.yahoo.com/mlb) does a pretty good job of giving updates after every inning... thats where I got my info.

Box score is up:http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/scores/20030309/oakcha

Nice to see Loaiza doing well. I think he'll win the 5th spot. Also...what is with Wunsch? He just passed Colon for the team lead in strikeouts for spring training even though he has 2 less innings.

The AP Recap:

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Rontrez Johnson hit an eighth-inning grand slam off Tom Gordon to lift Oakland to a 5-3 win over the Chicago White Sox in a split-squad game Sunday.

Gordon, who hadn't allowed an earned run in his previous three appearances, came into the game with a 3-1 lead and got into trouble from the start, walking Billy McMillon. After a double by Ramon Hernandez and then another walk, Gordon's perfect spring ended on Johnson's blast to right-center.

The Sox jumped on Oakland first, as Magglio Ordonez hit a solo home run off A's starter Micah Bowie. Hernandez tied the game in the sixth with an RBI single, but Brian Daubach put the Sox up 2-1 with an RBI double.

The Sox added a run an inning later, but Gordon gave it back in the eighth, and then some.

The A's Roy Smith (1-0) got the win, Jeremy Fikac picked up his first save in two innings of work and Gordon (0-1) took the loss.

Meanwhile, Esteban Loaiza continued to distinguish himself from the rest of the pack in the battle for the No. 5 spot in the Sox's starting rotation.

Loaiza, a non-roster invitee for the Sox, threw four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and fanning three. In three Cactus League starts, the 31-year-old right-hander has a 3.72 ERA, allowing just four runs and nine hits in 9 2/3 innings pitched.

"He looks like he's really hitting his spots right now, too," Sox Manager Jerry Manuel said. "That surprised me that a guy like that would be out there. You tend to look at what's wrong with him instead of all the good stuff and he's been pretty good in all areas."

Loaiza is battling Gil Heredia, Jon Rauch and lefty prospect Josh Stewart for that final spot in the rotation.

Looks like Loaiza is doing a lot to push for that 5th spot...

Gang:

Laugh all you want but these guys aren't exactly the 27 Yankees or the 75 Reds. They can't turn it on and off when they want to

Play poorly in the spring and you are probably going to play poorly when it counts. It's the little things.

You're right... Just like those 2001 Yankees who didn't even win 10 games in Spring. Man did that team suck.

Well I guess we'll see then how things turn out Double 23.

There's a big difference between the Yankee organization who expects to win, and the Sox organization which hopes to.
