Article in Tribune (http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/cs-0302280200feb28,1,2315572.column?coll=cs%2Dhome%2D utility) speculates about a cable deal similar to Yankees YES Network.

Comcast is a quality company but they would be new to the Chicago market, that plus you don't know if the service would be part of "basic" cable or offered as a "premium" package.

It has all the makings of SportsVision II and we saw how THAT turned out.

The Sox should stay where they are and if the Cubs leave...so much the better. Fox Sports would have to start doing even more on the Sox in order to keep them satisfied and fill up the programming lost from the Cubs leaving.

The times are totally different now. People expect to pay for TV and sporting events in particular. This would in NO WAY have the same negative effect on TV viewership as Sportsvision.

Besides, if the YES network is the model, most subscribers would see their cable bills "skyrocket" by less than $2.00/month...

I doubt the Cubs would give up their WGN deal for their own local cable fix that would get them less national attention.

And if the Sox were to go to their own cable station they would have to be part of basic cable or risk alienating people. Without the history of being a top flight winning ballclub, like the Yankees, people wouldn't be ready and willing to pay for Sox broadcasts. Hell even the Yankees have trouble getting Cablevision to bend to their demands.

It would have to be as a partnership with the Scrubs or there's no reason to do it. There are reasons why the Scrubs would be interested.

I think it's smart business for JR & The Trib to explore their options in order to, at the very least, drive up the rights fees for FOX.

I can see this network happening especially if the Bulls are lucky enough to get LeBron James.
