Billy Pierce-Ed Walsh Picture From Old Timers Day '54 (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/030212/168/39bbg.html)

Found this picture while surfing the net this afternoon and thought the members at WSI would enjoy it as well. Congrats to Billy Pierce on making the MI Sports Hall of Fame. I think Cooperstown would be a nice way to cap off a great career. Billy's career #'s are right in line with some of the pitchers already in the HOF. (Don Drysdale, Dizzy Dean) etc

Here are some players I feel are deserving of enshrinement and were snubbed by the BBWA. Most of these guys now have to wait for the veteran's committee to get them in.
1) Bert Blyleven
2) Jim Kaat
3) Al Oliver
4) Ron Santo
5) Vada Pinson
6) Orlando Cepeda
7) Dick Allen
8) Billy Pierce
9) Billy Buckner
10) Jim Rice

Is Buck O'Neil comatose in KC?

Just on his word alone Minnie makes it into the HoF.

Two points, then I'll shut up.

1) Orlando Cepeda is in the Hall of Fame. The vet's cmte put him in.

2) Buckner???????????? Why?
Outside of pulling a Leon Durham, what is he remembered for? He was a respectable enough ballplayer, but I don't remember him being any better than Lamar Johnson or Jim Spencer (two of his contemporaries who played for the Sox when he was a lowly Cub), let alone being anything worthy of baseball's version of "immortality."

i'd suggest some memory training then.

while buckner is no hof'er, let's compare these three ....

..............years - .300 - 100+rbi -- total rbi - doubles
buckner ... 22 ---- 8 ---- 3 ------- 1208 ----- 499
johnson .... 9 ----- 3 ---- 0 (81) --- 381 ----- 122
spencer .. 15 ----- 0 ---- 0 (70) --- 599 ----- 146

After looking at that picture of Pierce in his prime and a 73-year-old Walsh, take a look at the pics here (link on the right under "photo gallery") of now 75-year-old Pierce and Mark Buehrle.

hopefully in the future, it will be a photo of Mark Buehrle and one of our young phenoms in CHICAGO. ...Not in St. Louis.
