A very good and old friend of mine is searching to find out what day he went to his first sox game. The only information he can give me is that it took place in either 1939/40/41 since he was born in 1934. He remembers that it was between the White Sox and Boston and that the White Sox won it in the bottom of the ninth with 3 runs to win with the final score of 5-4 and that a player's name of Bobby Door played in the game. If you could point me to a internet link where I could do some research or better yet tell me on what day that game was played it would help a very old Chicago White sox fan realize the dream of being able to tell everyone when he saw his first Sox game.

Try http://www.retrosheet.org (http://www.retrosheet.org/gamelogs/index.html). They've got a database of game logs going all the way back to 1900.

Good Luck, and welcome to WSI!

PaleHose, you are the man! I have to hand it to you. Somebody here can always help out someone with a question. Daver has helped me more than once with questions.

How about corn and bunyon remedies?

Yes Indeed. that was a dang good question,
and of course, SOX fans are about KNOWLEDGE. Nice One Pale Hose on the HOme Run there.

it took place in either 1939/40/41... it was between the White Sox and Boston and that the White Sox won it... 5-4

8/26/39
6/7/41

It looks like both of these games fit the above parameters. I haven't figured out how to figure out lineups from these days, or an inning by inning log, or if it's possible from retrosheet.

I found bobby doerr (http://www.baseball-reference.com/d/doerrbo01.shtml) and it looks like he likely played in both of these games.

That's a pretty good website, although there were a ton of numbers to sift through!

I now know that the exact date of my first White Sox game ever was ...... September 18, 1982.

It was actually pretty easy for me to find since I remembered that it was a night double header against Oakland sometime in September of 1982. I would have been 9, and my dad and I went for his birthday (9/17).

On a related note, the next year, my dad purchased tickets in April for he and I to go to a Sox game on his actual birthday. Little did we know, that the game he purchased the tickets for would turn out to be the division clinching game against Seattle! I still remember Harold's dinger and his sac fly to win it. The place was packed!
