There are times where this guy is the biggest Cubbie
Booster, and only chooses to rip on the SOX (mostly deserved however) He brings up an excellent point today.
And I agree with him. WHY couldnt have Uncle Jerry
taken the new USCell money, gotten some private financing,
Put some Public Money together, and BUILT US A NEW STADIUM ???

whats the point of building a new stadium? it would be around $400 mil at least, plus we just got a new one in the 90's, no point in a new one

Murphy brought up how the Sox only had a few more years left on the lease and could have left to build a new park. That was an option but considering that a new park would probably not get any public funding that to me is a dead issue.

I have absolutely no problem with the Sox selling the naming rights. Maybe someone can post a poll here to get the pulse on the regulars here.

IMHO the Sox are damned if they do damned if they don't. People complain about the park. Then the Sox take, what is a now a normal method, and sell naming rights to improve the park and people complain.

It's my opinion most of the people complaining loudest about the name change are Cub fans.

Cub fans don't seem to remember that their beloved Wrigley Field was renamed from Weegham Park in the 1920's...

DrCrawdad.....you're right, the Sox are damned either way. And I'm tired of it. I say if you don't like it try to do it yourself. And if you can't, then make the best of it and shut up.

I really don't see the point of complaining until we actually see what Uncle Jerry does with this money and to the Park. If he is saying it won't be complete till 2005, that homerun porch may become reality.

Did you know Wrigley wasn't even built for the Cubs? It was built by Charles Weeghman for his Chicago Whales of the old Federal League. When the Federal League folded, it became the home of the Cubs in 1916 and originally called Cubs Park, but the Wrigley family changed the name in 1920. You could say, therefore, that the Cubs were the first team to have their stadium named after a business interest, as they, of course, were chewing-gum magnates. So much for tradition.

Mariotti also left out the points that Comiskey Park was leveled 12 years ago and Charles Comiskey might have had a lot to do with starting the AL and he did start the white sox, but he was a real ******* like it or not. The new park losing the Comiskey name doesnt hurt me at all. As long as they field a good team and use the money to get some fans back, great.

JR didnt pay for this stadium that was never completed, why would anyone think he would pay for a new one after 13 years?

damned if they do damned if they don't. People complain about the park

Tell me about it. The Metrodome sucks. Absolutely sucks, everyone hates it until they start talking about tearing it down and replacing it with a shiney new $400MM stadium with public money, then it's the GREATEST sports facility ever. It's only 20 years old!!! AN OUTRAGE!?! Can't build a new stadium every 20 years??!??!

Then other teams continually bitch and moan about how idiotic and hard and 'difficult the field is...

Then if somehow someway the government funds a stadium bill, we're idiots again...

:) damned if you do, damned if you don't...
