An article in the Feb 3 edition of Crain's Chicago Business says the Cubs role in the Tribune empire has diminished significantly. It speculates that they might go the way of other media conglomerates like AOL-Time Warner, Disney, and News Corp. and seek a buyer for their baseball team.

On the other hand the article said Tribune is looking into the idea of starting it's own regional sports network to compete with Fox Sports Net with the Cubs as the centerpiece and luring the Sox and Bulls away from FSN with big money.

Imagine the Chairman being the object of a bidding war between Rupert Murdoch and Tribune. I love it, the entertainment purposes alone . . . :)

if it's a tribune owned station, they'll lure them away with big money and then show them 6 times a season.
