Cubs 81, Sox 32

THe Weekend was pretty slow...for
obvious superbowl related Reasons.
The Sun-Times and Mike Kiley however,
were able to Break some cub news about Brownlie.
What a chump he is....quite obvious, that kid is
LOOKING FOR THE DOUGH. (hmmm, i can get a
Lexus now...instead of waiting til JUNE again....
yeah,,,I WANT A LEXUS)

Wow, lot of stories about the SOX today.
Of course, someone had to put a Fluff/Rehashed
story about the Cubs out there, despite them making
no news today. Cubs are still way way way ahead
of the Sox as far as media coverage. Will Media
jump on the Cardinal Tampering Issue? Or are they
waiting for Dusty to announce his ToothPick SPokesperson deal. Hopefully, a number of Us will touch on this TAMPERING
subject at SoxFest.
We have evidence.

Today, Handsome Mike Kiley of the Some Times writes an article about the similarities between the TB Bucs and the Cubs. Unbelievable. I guess the Cubs will win the World Series AND the Super Bowl. And this of course is the week of Soxfest, when you would think we'd be seeing these kinds of articles on the Sox. Yeah, right, that'll happen.

01-29-2003, 10:20 AM

Though its SoxFest Week, both newspapers have
yet to put together any Fluffy Sox articles yet.
As we remembered when the Flub Convention occured,
the stories outnumbered the Sox 10-3. Will that
happen This Weekend? The Media has so much to write
about, yet Cub Fan/Writers like Mike Kiley of the Sun-Times,
Insist on writing Rah-Rah, CubFluff like todays article for instance.
The Headline reads...."Cubs like Bucs?...Just Imagine".
The Chicago Media have LONG been guilty of CubFluff, only to
see nothing materialize of their columns. Mike Kiley, is
Its articles like these that make me turn away from that particular columnist/paper in general. If I were to come on this website...
and just spew silly comments all the time, im sure once everyone Here saw my Name Attached to the Thread, you guys would Ignore my post. Why doesnt Mike Kiley realize this? Hes very quickly turning himself into a Cub Hack. Upon reading the article however, he leaves himself a Garage-Sized hole to escape
from. He mentions that the Cubs may not have the "talent" that
the Bucs have (so why would he make the comparison/write the article then?)
and that really, the only thing Baker and Gruden have in Common
(if that) is that they both left teams that were located near a Bay of Water. Ridiculous. Reason 5,422 why Im not a Cub Fan. Cub Fan/Mike Kiley owes me an Apology for wasting 5 minutes of my precious time. That would be like me Basing an article about the accomplishments of Jerry Manuel and George Washington, simply because the both do their work in the United States. absurd.

Standings since 12.13.02, For a Team that hasnt won anything
in the last, say 80 something years, they sure get a lot of Attention from the Mike Kileys/Fred Mitchells of the media world.

Wow....crazy what one weekend can do as far
as media coverage. Unfortuneately for the last couple
of days, a majority of the stories are Negative towards
the Sox name-change. Dont know where I stand
so far.....

For the Weekend.....

Chicago Sun-Times:

Cubs 0
Sox 8

Chicago Tribune:

Cubs 4
Sox 8

Funny how a majority of the Tribs stories are Very Negative
towards the Sox name change. Nothing really Fluffy this
weekend, though maybe they didnt deserve it??
(Wrigley Field
was the 1st team to "Sell" out by the way) Another interesting note
about this weekends Coverage. Cub Fan Mike Kileys story
about Bobby Brownlie, went from "Reporter" to "Columnist"
in the same article.
He basically put his opinion that Brownlie is "Lucky"
to be a "Cub" and should take the money, and join a winning
organization. HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA. I say Brownlie should
ask for 5 Million, or just wait a couple of months and get his
money very very shortly from somewhere else. I think its
funny now that the Cubs will now have at least 3 players who
were All About the "Benjamins", joining this team only because
other teams would not pay (for better or worse) their
Exorbitant bonus Demands (Bobby "Dollar" Hill, Mark "10 Million" Prior) This team, and those aforementioned Players, will
get what they deserve. Karma is a Funny Funny Thing.

Stadium naming story still very big.
Majority of the articles however are slamming the Sox
for the name change (except Downey). Fred Mitchell,
continues his Cub Friendliness by doing yet another
QA with another Former Cub player who hasnt been in
the game for years, Fluffy Cub article.

Chicago Sun-Times:

0 Cub Stories
2 Sox Stories

Chicago Tribune:

1 Cub Story
2 Sox Stories

Standings as of 12.13.02 are as follows. What is very ALARMING
to note here, is that Yes, the SOX have a ton of stories in the last 4 days allowing them to catch up to the Cubs, but these have
been all Centered on the Name Changing Angle. There really
hasnt been any "CUBFLUFF" type stories about the Sox.
Could it be that if the sox hadnt changed the name........

First time in a long time, we see some fluffy sox stories.
included a pic of paulie. ONce again though, yet another
of the countless stories on Santos HOF bid. this time
from "other players" perspective. Coming Next Week,
The United Auto Workers union will have their opinion on
Santos HOF possibilities. Seems like the Negative Sox-Bashing/USCellular flap dying down. I will take a final
count of all the stories that generated. Right now...
its around 9 or 10. if thats the case,,,,the SOX, even with
their own "SOXFEST" convention, still werent able to
generate the amount of stories the CUbs did on their

must not have anything good to write about.
except the nba allstar game. booooooooo-ring.

Oops, while perusing the rest of the Cubune yesterday 2/7,
there was a Piece on the new "Baseball as America"
exhibit, and it featured none other than Mark Buehrle
and Billy Pierce. Story basically followed them around the
exhibit last weekend for a private showing for them.
Was a Pretty nice piece, and may qualify as SoxFluff.
no news today however........

Standings as of 12.13.02
Cubs 89
Sox 69

The Sox have taken advantage of a slew of Press regarding
the UsCellular name change (most of it Negative) Bad Press
notwithstanding, the Sox are actually within 20 of equallling
the Cubs. yeah right....wait til spring training starts, the
Chicago Media Love Affair with all things Cubbie will begin in
earnest. The cubs sure are a Propoganda Machine arent they?
Too bad...the Lazy, Irresponsible Industry we call the Chicago
Sports Media are missing the Real Stories.
1. Emergence of Magglio
2. Sox hiding Renovations
3. Team has picked up Colon
4. Team hasnt won a dang thing, why isnt mgmt doing more?

02-09-2003, 11:33 AM
It's really amazing how many more Cub stories there have been when the Sox have been MUCH more active this offseason.

Dick Allen

Today, Handsome Mike Kiley writes a full-page article about Steve Stone's return to the broadcast booth to help out the pathetic Chip Caray and the equally pathetic Cub "fans". Meanwhile, in the Sunday Some Times, Mags wins the home run contest in Las Vegas and the coverage was about the same as if he was playing for an out-of-town team - just a little "by the way" kind of blip.
