Sunday Jan 19, 2003 & Monday Jan 20, 2003

Chicago Sun-Times:

3 Cub Stories
0 Sox Stories

Chicago "Cub"une:

2 Cub Stories (mistreatment latinplayers)
0 Sox Stories

New Thread, but apparently same results. Still no Sox special
interest stories, just the same CubFluff, Cubnews, and Cub
Stories. 4 of the 5 stories are legit news I guess (one was a
sammy "are you changing this year" story). By Mid February,
the Cubs will have Broken 100+ stories about their team,
their mgmt, their players, their rooftop fight, their latin-american blemish etc etc. They are well on their way to Quadrupling
the amount of coverage the Sox get.

Standings as of 1/20/03

Well it was the Cubs convention last week, so the Cubs should have more print then the Sox. You will need to compare the coverage of last week to Sox Fest coverage in order to have a fair comparison.

And notice how today's coverage--in both papers--of the Colon press conference dwelled endlessly on his weight, despite the fact that he doesn't look particularly large in the photographs.

I agree we should compare Soxfest coverage to the SCrub Convention--but I think we can predict how that will come off.

Dont WORRY Fellas....I will be all over this come next week.
We will definitely be comparing coverage on this come
SoxFest. Matter of Fact...For Saturday 2/1/03's installment,
I will be using the guy from Whitesox.coms computer to
enter the info. Talk about hard hitting, up-to-the-minute coverage

One thing that particularly upset me was that the Bartolo Colon Press Conference was relegated to the sidebar of the cover of the Sun-Times Sports section. You KNOW that if Colon had put on that Cubby Blue jersey at a press conference it would have had priority over non local football coverage and would have had a full color shot for the cover. It is upsetting but not surprising. Heck, they had a full color cover shot of Mike Remlinger putting his Cubs jersey on. Not to mention the media circus that went with the signing of Dusty Baker. We even got fluff articles on Dusty's brand of toothpicks for crissakes. Ridiculous. Ok, I'm done venting.

Well darn, I thought the signing of Rick White would have gotten the same coverage that Remlinger got.

THURSDAY JANUARY 23, 2003

Chicago Sun-Times:

0 Cub Story
0 Sox Story

Chicago Tribune:

1 Cub Story (briefly about Brownlie still available)
1 Sox Story (about rick white...no front page)

Cubs are well on their way to hitting the century mark
before Spring Training even Begins!!!! I noticed too
how the papers had big color pictures, frong page headlines
heralding the Remlinger signing...but Rick Whites signing
only warranted a mid-page story. SunTimes didnt even
bother Writing about it !!!!!
