Well...he's still available Sox fans.

The Sporting News radio network reported that the Red Sox turned DOWN the Expos in a proposed deal that would send Colon and Tatis to Boston for Hilldebrant, Fossum and cash.

ESPN said last week that the Yankees signing Contreras and probably Clemens will put them out of the Colon market. Meanwhile the Expos STILL have to cut payroll and are finding fewer and fewer teams needing pitching.

Perhaps the Sox can "luck" into forcing the Expos to lower their price in order to get a pitcher they so badly need. Off hand I can't think of any other teams that may be in the market for Colon (Vasquez) and have the payroll room to get him.

We'll see...

The Expos are supposedly dropping the price on Colon. They are not demanding that the team who gets Colon take Tatis as well. Hillenbrand, Fossum, and cash is the latest rumor going around. KW, where are you?

Maybe not
From the Boston Globe:
The Sox had a deal in place for Colon, who is due to be paid $8.25 million next season and is eligible for free agency after next season, in which they would have given up third baseman Shea Hillenbrand and pitcher Casey Fossum, but the Sox balked when the Expos insisted they take overpaid third baseman Fernando Tatis ($6.25 million) as well.

Hmm... well according to ESPN Insider

Dec. 27 - As expected, New York's signing of jose Contreras spurred the Red Sox to turn back toward Montreal, and the after-Christmas sale has the asking price for Bartolo Colón on the way down. The latest rumored deal has Boston sending third baseman Shea Hillenbrand, pitcher Casey Fossum and cash to the Expos in exchange for Colón, but Boston might wait to see if the price drops even further. Montreal reportedly has dropped its demand that the Sox (or any other suitor) also take Fernando Tatis and his $6.5 million salary.

Geez-our spare parts would make a better deal for Montreal than that.
