Hendry spoke Monday with Seth Levinson, who represents lefty Mike Stanton, with whom the Yankees cut ties Saturday. Other relievers the Cubs will consider signing are Tom Gordon, Ramiro Mendoza, Roberto Hernandez and Mike Jackson.

Someone please calm my fears that the Cubs are going to be VERY good next season.

We'll have to see, won't we? This is definitely, by far, the most activity I have ever seen in the Flubbie organization during any offseason since I've been a cognizant baseball fan, and they appear to be willing to spend a sizeable amount more than before.

It may be like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, or it could lead to a very productive season; only time will tell...

that's what people said after they signed alou last year. they were going to win the world series. we'll have to see. they certainly should be pretty good after their advantage allowed them a 100 million dollar payroll and the consensus best player to come out of the draft at least in the last five or ten years.

I agree with what's been written in response. We'll have to wait and see. So far they've only signed one FA, Remlinger, right?

As I've said before, I suspect that MacPhail/Hendry are under pressure to produce this year, or else.

MacPhail has been rebuilding the Cubs since 1994. What's the result so far? Three winning seasons. One Wild Card berth.
