Sorry if someone else posted this but I have not seen it.

Hacking Mass is a way to detrimine how badly a player hurts a team. The formual is (0.800-OPS)*PA. The worst player last year, Neifi Perez. Worst player on the Sox was Jimenez, D'Angelo at 59.19. Best Sox was Mas at -116.43. Bonds was the best overall at -355.39 and Thome was second at -197.65.

It's not really a way of determining how much a player hurts a team as much as a reverse fantasy game. It's far from a realistic method of determing a player's value.

Say .800 is a avg player's OPS. Then (.800 - OPS)*PA would be saying difference between that players OPS and that of avg player times how many time that player could effect a game (PA). Yeah it was meant as a game, but you can use it to measure how much a player hurt you or helped you. Not how good a player is but what the value of his playing time is.

With Jimenez anyway the OPS wont necessarily be as important as OBP....if he only gets around a .700 OPS but a good OBP we still have a viable lead off hitter
