he was waived by the giants. could be a good backup outfielder (he can play all three positions) for us and could serve as insurance if rowand isn't ready to start the season.

I never thought of Shinjo as starting material. However, he does all the little things right on offense and is above par in the field. It is a bit of a red flag, however, that the Giants waived him instead of shopping him for a trade. Maybe they knew something about him that might make him damaged goods.

they had an option on him so they're not paying him any money. they claim they just cut him loose because he wasn't going to be able to start for them and they wanted to let him try to find a starting job which i guess means he won't be our backup outfielder.

The Sox already have a fourth and a fifth outfeilder,Aaron Rowand and Jeff Leifer in that order.

All I know is that I had him on my fantasy baseball team for about two months. He hit around 0.220 the ENTIRE TIME I had him. He has no slugging, and his OBP sucked.

He's an offensive liability.

one meaning of Shinjo is "fish cake". Of course that meaning doesnt use the same characters he does in his name, but its funny nonetheless.
