From the same e-mail to season ticket holders, just less important....

CHICAGO : The Chicago White Sox also have agreed to terms with catcher Mark Johnson on a one-year contract.

Um...so he played 216 other games in his career where he didn't hit, but his average went up?

Where did you get this?

From the same e-mail to season ticket holders...

As I mentioned in my post, the news came in an e-mail to season ticket holders. TSN, ESPN and others have it as well. Supposedly $500,000 for one year.

Remember last year when Singleton got a contract extension and about two weeks later he was traded to Baltimore for Willie Harris? Apparently, The Sox only signed him so that he would be under contract and therefore more attractive to a team that would be willing to trade for him. I think this may be in the works with the signing of MJ.

I would normally think the same thing, but in this case I think they are making sure they have at least two catchers available for the roster, because after Olivo they have nothing in the minors to fall back on,and I mean nothing,at this point I don't beleive the Charlotte Knights has a catcher on their roster, both Lee Evans and Mark Dellasandro are minor league FA's.

Remember Peter Gammons reported a Johnson and another player for Lidle deal is possible.

Having Johnson signed would make that a little closer to reality.

It doesn't matter as Olivo is going to be rookie-of-the-year.
