The Oakland A's may be about to lose manager Art Howe's right-hand man.
Bench coach Ken Macha interviewed with the Chicago Cubs on Friday, and word out of Chicago was the team could hire him as manager by as early as next week.

"He's done everything you could ask to be prepared to manage in the major leagues," Cubs general manager Jim Hendry told the Chicago Sun-Times. "He's so well-rounded. He's solid. You can see why he's gotten so much attention."

Macha has been waiting for a half-dozen years to manage in the major leagues and, before interviewing in Chicago, he called the Cubs job the "plum job out there."

Would his philosophy of coaching be described as Machavellian?
