View Full Version : That's reason enough to fire Manuel.

we should start a thread to list all the reasons (to fire Manual)

here's a start:

for taking Burly-mon out of that game's final inning against the wishes of his pitcher and coaching staff, depriving him of a deserved complete game win

for putting Butter into any game at all before he could throw more than batting practice velocity

for promising to bench Buddy Lee on 6/3/02 for the forseeable future & then totally failing to follow through on it within a matter of days

for setting (probably) team and league records for the number of different lineups used by one team in a season

for even once using a lineup with Josh Paul starting in any outfield position

for blowing anyway the wind blows on what to do with the Sox day to day and not showing the huevos & leading a reasonably capable club to better results

for playing the righty vs leftly thing to an extreme and removing effective pitchers late in the game only to see the inserted pitcher get bombed and blow the game (musta been 20 losses with this one alone this year)

For never backing up his players against bad calls by the umps. If you're only heading out to say two words to the ump & then leave, why bother? You might as well just stay in the dugout.

Having a son named Anthony on whom we wasted a draft pick. He had no intentions of signing, he just wanted to claim he was drafted. I realize that he was an extremely late rounder but Mark Buehrle came out of the 37th round. Who knows what we could have gotten out of that pick had we used it on a real baseball player as opposed to throwing it away b/c of connections to JM.

For blowing the game against the Yankees by bringing in Keith Foulke one inning too early.

That would be my #1 reason. That game sealed the fate of the 2002 White Sox, IMO, and it likely deprived Burly of his 20th win, in retrospect.

The line-up on the last game of the season. Then not pinch hitting when the game was on the line in the ninth, leaving Wee-Willie in to hit. I was yelling at the TV.

for not pinchitting for the Buddly Lee and co. (the Mendoza line crew) at the bottom of the lineup in 8th and 9th innings in close games

since he did this at least about 20 times this year, you might chalk up at least ( conservative estimate ) a couple more uneeded losses here

...for not doing what I think is the most important thing managers actually DO today: not motivating the team to a BIG WIN. it seems like every "big game" or "big series" we were in was a complete embarassment to white sox fans. it wasn't until the games became meaningless that we actually executed our gameplan (if there ever was one) during these games.

PS> what ever happened to stealing bases, hit and runs, and the squeeze bunt??? basically didn't see any of these all season especially after lofton started tanking.
