Offense has been absent for two days in Houston. Eloy made a nice catch in left. Abreu with the one hit bomb and that was that.

The hitters are failing to get walks, get on base and are instead trying to please the crowd here at WSI be indulging in nothing but pure power hitting which does not win you very many games.

That was peak Verlander. They couldn't touch him.

Astros showed just what good pitching can do.

Just to be picky getting walks and reaching base is part of the current philosophy for MLB 3 outcome approach.

Not only that, hitters canít take walks if the pitcher is throwing mostly strikes. My takeaway from the game: Verlander is a good pitcher.

It has always seemed obvious to me that the way to counter "working the count" is to throw strike 1, strike 2, and have the batter defensive from the get go. If they get a hit early in the count, so be it. They still can't work the count.

This Verlander guy is pretty good.

He was on fire last night. Even when he missed it wasn't by much and he had some nasty movement.

Sox bats are getting exposed this series.

There is just so much lack of punch in that middle of the order, it's obvious.

In Verlander's last 5 games, 4 of them have been 1 or 2 hitters, so it's not only the White Six that are having trouble with this guy . wondering which Nova shows up tonight, as he is mr. inconsistent . looking forward to Thursday and Friday, with Gio and Lopez going . as the flight from Houston to Minneapolis isn't just a hop, Thursday should be a day game, but oh well.

This shows why it was so important to get that last TOR game as a win. Trip against arguably the 2 best teams in baseball could go south real quick putting you back in a giant hole to dig out of.

Still from the rebuild view, mixed bag game not a total loss. Outside of a meltdown 4th for Covey this was another well-pitched game. But 0-10 w 7 Ks from the 3 young hitter Eloy/Yoan/Tim is....not good. Somewhat alleviated by it being Verlander and him dealing, but still. In general I'd say if you go 2 games and give up 3.5 runs on the road at Houston you're doing well pitching.

Need to find a way to scratch out a win today and then hope Gio can deal some tomorrow.

This week will show how far away we are from being remotely competitive and why we should temper enthusiasm about where this club is headed.

This week? Man, I'm all for optimism, but whatever happens in the small sample size of one week against great teams with this roster is not indicative of how far away the White Sox are from being competitive as a franchise.

On any given day, there are at least 4 hitters in the lineup with OPS+ and wRC+ values below 85. When Castillo catches, that increases to 5.

These guys are not buried in the lineup, either. They are leading off, hitting cleanup, hitting 5th, and hitting 6th.
