It appears that the New York Yankess will be socked with a hefty luxury tax now that a new collective bargaining agreement has been reached. Yankees owner George Steinbrenner has threatened to file lawsuits in order to avoid having to pay the luxury tax. The next move is his.

George Steinbrenner has hired on retainer the top anti-lawyer in America.
If he decides to sue (a distinct possibility according to ESPN's Baseball Tonight) he would do so accusing the other owners of acting in consort to systematically devalue his franchise.
The good side of a lawsuit is that the courts probably would force ALL MLB teams to open their books completely before an impartial ecenomist in order to get a sense of "true worth". the bad side is that a ruling in favor of the Yankees would make the current agreement null and void and would probably throw the sport into total chaos.
