No, you will not succeed in burying the 10,000th thread in the dregs of WSI.

Damn! He sounds great!

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him brought up in September to throw a bit out of the pen

Do they mean this September, on the off chance there is baseball.

So with that article this is our future rotation:

Buehrle
Rauch
Diaz
Garland
Honel

I'm assuming that would be in 2004 or 2005

The Hoover Met a few days ago, anyone hear about B'Ham manager Wally Backman's meltdown? Hilarious stuff

I read about it from a guy who was there.

During last night's game, the Barons were trailing 3-1 in the 7th but were mounting a rally. With a runner at 1b, Eric Battersby drilled a ball to the wall in CF, and the run scored. The opposing manager argued that the ball bounced on the warning track and against the wall (above the yellow boundary marker), so it should be a ground-rule double. The umpires agreed, Battersby remained at 2b, but the run was recalled and the runner sent back to 3b.

Backman went crazy. He runs out to the 3b umpire and gives him the "bizness," he then proceeds to the 3b bag, yanks it from its bearings and heaves it towards the stands. Finally he heads back towards the dugout, but not before giving the home plate umpire the "bizness." After a few moments, Wally heads to the dugout, seemingly with everything off his chest...

then it gets interesting.

He walks towards homeplate and kicks a group of baseballs left for the umpire by the batboy (during the melee). He goes into the dugout and fires 2 bats onto the field, and then three more...and then three more...followed by three more...

Not satisfied, Wally hurls the Gatorade cooler onto the field, and sees its counterpart (the water cooler) sitting idly by...he picks it up and whips it onto the field.

About 5 seconds later, the bucket of Bazooka Joe and David seeds come flying out of the dugout...and some calm ensues. As Olivo heads to the plate, out from the dugout comes a freaking metal folding chair!

Backman then leaves, and Olivo promptly singles home both of the runners!

WOO!

So all in all, Wally sent flying

3b
4 baseballs
12-13 baseball bats
1 Sports Drink Cooler
1 Water Cooler
1 bucket of gum and seeds
1 metal folding chair

Walter Wayne...

Oh my, the neighborhood squirrel population must have had a field day with those sunflower seeds! However the folding chair trick was not very original. I've seen them thrown on pro wrestling countless times.

My knind of manager. I haven't seen anything like that since Larussa threw 3rd base into the dugout. And that was nothing next to backman. lol
