Great outing from Quintana. The defense behind him was also very solid. We get to split with the Tigers and they might be in trouble going into September.

A competent Detroit defense makes this a much different game, but nice to get a win with all the youngsters in the lineup.

Can't decide whether I'm more concerned that Abreu was HBP or that he has taken possession of Dunn's "lucky" monkey (https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/506163668577693696).

We're one win away from matching last year's dismal total. Here's to a strong finish!

I don't know about what you think. But, wins before days off always feel a bit sweeter.

The last series of the year is at home vs. the Royals. I hope the Royals are 3 games up on the division so if we sweep them we ruin their playoff hopes.

I hope it stays close because I'll be at that last game and it'd be cool to see a down-to-the-wire game on the final day.

But you really want to ruin the Royals' playoff hopes? I'm kind of all-in on them for now. You'd rather see the Tigers win the division again?

I could give a **** who wins the ALC if it's not the Sox. The Sox' long term interests are best served by the Tigers finally winning a WS, though.

In September, they've got 3 with Cleveland, 3 in Detroit and 7 with KC to end the season. If it ain't the White Sox, screw the rest of them.

I am familiar with this theory, that if Detroit wins a World Series title, Ilitch and Dombrowski will suddenly stop shelling out money to improve their team. Whether or not that's true doesn't change the fact that I can't stand the Tigers' smugness over the past few seasons (and sure, their run of success perhaps entitles them to some smugness).

It's the same reason I rooted FOR the Tigers back in 2009, when they went down to the wire with the hated (and equally smug, though less justifiably) Twins. The only thing that made it possible to endure Minnesota's regular season successes was watching their epic failures in the playoffs. Detroit's obviously done much better in the postseason than the Twinkies, but I still don't want to see those bastards win a damn thing.

Of course, if the Royals do make the playoffs, I will the first to root against them versus almost any opponent!
